The stunning Mediterranean-style palace was built in 1916 by industrialist James Deering. Deering had an eye for European Renaissance details and artefacts, which are reflected throughout the museum’s grounds and buildings. The estate includes a main house, guest homes and ten acres of formal gardens surrounding a series of swimming pools, fountains, artificial grottos and manicured landscapes.

The museum's historic villa is filled with an array of unique and interesting items, including 18th and 19th century European furnishings and decorative arts, as well as a collection of Asian art and antiques. Visitors can also view a selection of American antiques, including furniture and decorative arts from the colonial and federal periods. Along with this, there are decorations such as porcelain figures from Meissen in Germany or Wedgewood from England as well as an array of luxurious antiques from across Europe to enjoy.
