About Arcul de Triumf

The Arcul de Triumf is a major military milestone in the history of Romania. This place has historically been the spot of remembrance and homage to the soldiers of Romania who have lost their lives in the past century in several wars. The structure was first built in 1878 and was dedicated to the soldiers of world war 1 who lost their lives for their country Romania.

Later on in 1936 this structure was reconstructed by replacing the wood with granite and designed by the architect Peter Antonescu. Standing tall at a height of 27 meters this structure's major feature is the sculptures on its arches which were created by notable Romanian sculptors Ion Jalea and Dimitri Paciurea. Even today the structure is known as the central point for all military parades and events such as national holidays like the one on December 1st.
