A Guice to Bandipur National Park
Bandipur was once upon a time gaming spot for the Maharajahs of Bandipur. It is situated 80 km from Mangalore and takes 2 and half hours to reach this place. Together with the Nagarhole, Wayanad and Mudumalai national Park, Bandipur constitutes the largest protected area of India. Bandipur park is famous for its population of elephants, tigers, spotted deer, flying squirrels and Langurs.

The reserve is the residents of 1900 elephants. There is a possibility of locating Royal Bengal tiger and the Leopard here than in any other national park of the country. The forests of this park comprise of mainly deciduous trees and teak wood. The forest is enriched with sandalwood and rosewood trees and hence the forest smells of fantastic mix of odours.

To enter the park, entry permits are needed. If you have to take your camera, pay extra for it. Elephant rides are organised by the forest department every hour. One stands a better chance of viewing wildlife in jeeps and vans than in buses filled with visitors. Opt for Machhans which guarantee close encounters with the nature and its raw beauty. The best time to see wildlife here is between the months of March and May. November to February remains very cool and pleasant. June to September is the time of elephants and the best time to see the place is a normal weekday when general touristic traveller would not come.
