About Townhall

Inaugurated in 1897 after it was burned, the town hall is home to the parliament with 647 rooms which is located in over 4000 oak piles. Enter the town hall through the main entrance door to visit the hall which has 16 sandstone pillars and 68 portraits of Hamburg citizens. One of the most interesting parts of the town hall is the staircase which is made of Sardinian marble known to depict the course of human life.

Visit the imperial hall also called Kaisersaal which has a beautiful ceiling that symbolizes merchant shipping. Admire the walls which are covered with wall coverings made up of pressed leather. Visit one of the top attractions in the town hall, the grand ballroom which is 46 meters long, 18 meters wide, and 15 meters in height.
