The Hauptwache

Housing an eclectic mix of former and contemporary buildings Hauptwache is one of Frankfurt’s bustling pedestrian areas which is well worth a visit on your trip. The plaza was named after its Baroque building which is the plaza’s focal point. It was originally built in 1729 with the intention to house Frankfurt’s mercenaries. Later the building was converted into a police station and a prison. At present Haupstwache operates as a meeting point for the locals.
