About Temple of Hephaestus

Perched on the Agoraios Kolonos hill, this is one of the rare temples that retains its structure and remains untouched by the wars and the destruction. This Temple of Hephaestus, the God of metallurgy and craftsmanship, was built into a church dedicated to St George.

Also known as one of Athens best places to visit, the Temple of Hephaestus was also used as a cemetery to bury non-orthodox Europeans. It is located in the Syntagma Square and is considered to be an important archaeological site. The temple also has an ornamental garden surrounding it now and allures the tourists with its lush greenery.
