Ponte Scaligero Overview

The Ponte Scaliger or Castelvecchio Bridge connects the late-mediaeval castle in Verona to the left bank of the Adige. Historians regard it as the most beautiful mediaeval arched bridge of all times; it is amongst the most impressive things to see in Verona. Taking in the magnificent views of the castle and city while enjoying a leisurely stroll will leave you with lifelong memories.

The Ponte Scaligero, one of Verona's most magnificent arched bridges, offers breathtaking views of the city, the castle, and stunning surroundings. It was erected in the fourteenth century to span the Adige River and link the Castelvecchio to the Adige River's left bank. Large segments of the bridge were destroyed by French and German troops in 1802 and 1945, respectively, but fortunately, it was rebuilt like the original bridge using as much of the recovered materials as possible.

With three arches, one of which spans over 48 metres and two smaller ones reaching 24 and 29 metres and a red brick design, the Castelvecchio Bridge is both an architectural marvel and an eye-catching structure. Since it is only a pedestrian bridge, it is one of the best places to enjoy the sunrise and sunset scenery. Historians hail it as the most ambitious and magnificent work of the Middle Ages in Verona, making it a must-see location for anybody visiting this city.
