Plaza de Oriente is a square in the historic centre of Madrid, Spain. The square was designed by Narciso Pascual y Colomer and opened in 1844. It is surrounded by Madrid’s two most important buildings, the Royal Palace on one side and the Royal Theatre on the other.

Witness one of the main sculptures, a bronze statue of Felipe IV riding a horse in the centre of the square. The statue measures 17 metres in diameter and 12 metres in height and was sculpted by the Italian Pedro Tacca in 1640. By Car: Plaza de Oriente is approximately 1.5 km from the city centre of Madrid via the C. de Bailén route. You can cover the distance in around 5 minutes by a cab. 

By Bus: Take a bus from Gran Vía - Montera station to Jardines De Sabatini station, which is 5 feet away from the Plaza de Oriente. 

By Subway: You can travel by line 2 subway from Estación de Sol Metro station to Opera station. Further, Plaza de Oriente is a 3-minute walk from the station. 

By Foot: Plaza de Oriente is approximately 800 m from the city centre of Madrid via C. del Arenal. It’s within walking distance, which will take around 10 minutes to reach.
