About the Activity:

This exciting expedition takes one through trails in the serene environs of the sparkling white destinations of Auli and Gurson; skiing in Auli in its snow-covered meadows and outdoor adventure rafting in the gushing waters of the Alaknanda river. While Auli is nestled in the lap of the Garhwal Himalayas laden with blankets of snow, it makes for a terrific tourist paradise and popular skiing destination of Auli. Offering one with remarkable views of Nanda Ghunti and Trishul peaks are the snow-laden hills of Gurson and the charming Parsari village.

This trip is meant for thrill-seekers to engage in a plethora of adventure activities from trekking to skiing and white water rafting. Give your adrenaline a kick with a session or two of skiing on the intimidating yet fun-filled slopes of Auli and Gurson followed by white water rafting opportunities on the waters of Alaknanda river. There is nothing that beats the exhilarating combination of skiing followed by outdoor adventure rafting that merge speed and altitude with the turbulence of the Alaknanda river waters from Jayalgarh to Devprayag.

What adds to the overall experience of this adventurous expedition is the majesty of the breathtaking surroundings amidst the snow-capped Himalayan mountains in the Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Drive from Haridwar – Auli (2450m, 8-9 hour drive for 280km)

    Haridwar and Rishikesh, Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnprayag and Nandprayag, Arrive in Auli

    Arrive at Haridwar from where you can hop onto a vehicle that will take you to the snowy environs of Auli crossing the religious township of Rishikesh and the river confluences of Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnprayag, Nandprayag along the way. The first leg of the drive will follow along the Ganga river and later along the Alaknanda. By evening, reach the lodge in Auli where you will be spending the next few days of the trip. Spend the rest of the day marveling at the snow-laden peaks around and hiking to the apple orchards. By the end of the day, get briefed with an orientation by the leader of the trip after which you can relax in the comfort of your room in the lodge.

  • Day 2 - Trek from Auli – Parasri Village (4-5 hour trek)

    Parsari village, Nanda Ghunti, Hathi Godi, Nanda Devi and Trishul peaks, Joshimath town, Alaknanda valley

    Post breakfast, head out on a snow trek to the cosy hamlet of Parsari from where you can witness the magnificent peaks of Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. Then you will come across lush thickets which you will cut across to land on the higher regions of Auli and ITBP camp. On the peak, marvel at the second highest peak in India, Nanda Devi, whilst relishing a hot beverage and meal.

    Descend through more forest cover as you head back to the lodge all the while enjoying the visuals of the majestic peaks of Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghunti, Trishul and Hathi Godi. Enhancing this visual delight are the ski slopes and snowy landscapes of Auli, Joshimath and Alaknanda valley with the river flowing right beside it. Return back to your lodge and retire here for the night.

  • Day 3 - Trek from Auli – Gurson (3350m) – Auli (5-6 hour trek)

    Gurson, Chair lift rides, Views of Nanda Devi and Doonagiri peaks

    This day will begin with a short road journey to the higher parts of Auli from where you can take a chair lift ride to the point from where the day’s trek commences. Start the trek to the top of Gurson through spectacular snowy landscapes and some of the most intimidating mountain peaks in the world.

    This trek is highlighted by the spectacles that are the Nanda Devi and Doonagiri peaks. Soak in the visuals of the spectacular surroundings from the top after which you can head back to the lodge by late afternoon. Spend the evening relaxing with a hot beverage and pakodas. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner after which you cuddle in for a good night’s sleep in your lodge.

  • Day 4 - Learn the basics of skiing (3-5 hours)

    Briefing session on skiing, Practice the techniques of using skiing equipments

    This entire day will be spent learning and practicing the basics of snow skiing. Post breakfast, get briefed on the techniques and safety measures of skiing and understand the use of the equipments.

    With the assistance of the guides, start by moving and sliding with the ski equipments after which you can gradually learn how to do short turns. This skiing session will last for about 4 to 5 hours after which you will have completed the day’s activities. Upon nightfall, unwind at your lodge and reminisce the day’s skiing session. Enjoy a delicious dinner and tuck into your beds for the night.

  • Day 5 - Enhance your skiing skills (4-5 hours)

    Perfect skiing turns and maneuvers, Glide down snow slopes

    Spend the day practicing the tricks of skiing taught to you the day before and perfecting the turns and maneuvers by gliding down snow slopes. By dusk, you will have achieved a comfort level in your skiing techniques and hence spend the rest of the day in leisure. Get a good night’s sleep at the lodge for the night.

  • Day 6 - Skiing in Auli (3 hours), Drive from Auli – Jayalgarh (4-5 hour drive)

    The first leg of the day will be spent practicing your skiing techniques post breakfast till lunch time. After lunch, take a road trip to Jayalgarh where a deluxe campsite will be awaiting you. Upon arriving at the site, freshen up and unwind by the river. Enjoy a cosy campfire on the banks of the river by night time and relish a sumptuous dinner thereafter. Retire in your tents for the night at this campsite in Jayalgarh.

  • Day 7 - Rafting from Jayalgarh – Devprayag (2-3 hours), Drive from Devprayag – Haridwar (2-3 hour drive)

    Rise in the morning with a hearty breakfast after which you can attend a briefing and orientation session on the safety measures and techniques with regard to rafting. Then you can set off on your rafting journey of about 24km on the Alaknanda River to Devprayag through rapids of grade II and III. You will also get a chance to indulge in the thrill of Duckie rides or inflatable kayak rides available here.

    The rafting session comes to an end at Devprayag, the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers which join to form the Ganga. Relish an appetizing lunch and pack your bags for a road journey back to Haridwar. Your expedition comes to an end when you arrive in Haridwar by 5-6:00 PM after which you can continue onwards with your journey.
