How to Reach Harsil:

By Air – 

All the far-off trekkers can take an air flight to Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport. As the airport is merely 31 km away from the town of Dehradun, you will easily find shared or private cabs to drop you to your final destination.

By Rail – 

The railway station of Dehradun is situated at a distance of 1 to 2 km from its main town. It is well-connected to major cities across the country. So, if you are coming here either from Delhi or Mumbai or Kolkata or Lucknow or Allahabad, you may quickly board a train to drive you to the Dehradun Railway Station.

By Road – 

Dehradun town is easily accessible from all major and minor cities in India by road. Hence, you have regular state-run and private buses plying from these destinations to Dehradun. Apart from this, you also have the cab facilities available from the major towns of Uttarakhand and Delhi.

Dehradun is located at a distance of 232 kilometers from Harsil. You can get a cab for Harsil from the airport or railway station itself.

Kalindi Khal Pass Trek Inclusions:

1. Accommodation – You will be staying in tents/hotels/lodges for the trek (3 people/tent/room). Room/tent is separate for the male and female participants.

2. Meals – All meals starting from dinner on the Day 1 till breakfast on Day 15. (14 Dinners, 14 Breakfasts, 13 Lunches) We have a system of providing 6 small meals along with tea/coffee in between (Vegetarian Only).

3. Camping charges – All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included.

4. Trekking equipment – High-quality tents and sleeping bags in all the camps. Sleeping bags can withstand temperatures as low as -10 ºC.

5. Safety equipment – First aid kit, oxygen cylinders, oximeter, etc. will be with guide/trek leader and at the campsite as well to deal with emergencies.

6. Expert trek Leaders – All our trek leaders are at least qualified in basic/advanced mountaineering and first aid course.

Kalindi Khal Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Transfer from Dehradun to Harsil (2600m, 8 hour drive for 280km)
  • Day Highlights: Arrival at Harsil
  • Day Details: Begin the amazing Kalindi Khal trek by driving from Dehradun to Harsil en route Uttarkashi.
  • Being a charming little hamlet, Harsil is set amidst the awe-striking natural splendor of the Himalayas.
  • Upon arrival at Harsil, check into a lodge and relax for the rest of the night.
Day 2
Drive from Harsil (2600m) – Gangotri (3050m, 20 km drive), Trek from Gangotri to Chirbasa (3550m, 3 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Bhagirathi Valley, Temple and holy ghat visits, Gangotri National Park
  • Day Details: Start the day after breakfast and drive through breathtaking trails from Hasil to the holy township of Gangotri that is bestowed with the sheer beauty of nature beside the banks of Ganga.
  • Inhabited by many pilgrims and sadhus, traverse through this holy town and visit its beautiful temple and ghats to seek blessings for a successful journey ahead.
  • Also, take a tour of the Gangotri National Park and get spellbound by the magnificent views of the Bhagirathi mountains.
  • Upon reaching Chirbasa after a 3-hour trek, set up your camps here and prepare to get acquainted with the climate and altitude of this place.
Day 3
Trek from Chirbasa – Bhojwasa (3850m, 2 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Bhagirathi, Shivling, Bhrigu Parbat, Gaumukh, Animal Spotting
  • Day Details: Begin this day’s short to Bhojwasa and feast your eyes with the splendid sights of the surrounding peaks of Bhagirathi, Shivling, and Bhrigu Parbat.
  • Settle down your camps here and get acclimatized to the place.
  • After a delectable lunch, trek up to Gaumukh, and after spending some time here head back down to Bhojwasa.
  • This place is the origin of the holy waters of Ganga which is a famous tourist attraction site.
  • Encounter several mountain antelopes or ‘Bharals’ here.
  • Spend the night in your cozy tents here and enjoy a comfortable night.
Day 4
Trek from Bhojwasa – Gaumukh (3890m) – Tapovan (4463m, 4 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Ascends, Moraines, Shivling, and Meru peak
  • Day Details: Post a hearty breakfast, continue your trek up to Gaumukh again and trail through several moraines here until you arrive at the striking location of Tapovan.
  • Take pleasure in the amazing sights of the beautiful place that is adorned with high altitude verdant prairies, charming little rivulets, and stunning mountains serving as the perfect backdrop.
  • Set up your camps at the Shivlng peak and enjoy the gorgeous views of Meru and Bhagirathi I, II, and III peaks.
  • Sleep in the comfort of your tents and have a good night’s sleep.
Day 5
Relaxation and acclimatization day at Tapovan
  • Day Highlights: Spend the day relaxing in the scenic environs of the place
  • Day Details: Enjoy a splendid day at Tapovan and unearth the beauty of the lush pastures as you acclimatize to the surroundings of the place.
  • Explore the verdant meadows or climb to the Shivling base camp.
  • You can even ascend right up to the Kirti glacier or just spend the entire day at the base camp.
  • End the rested day and retire for the night.
Day 6
Trek from Tapovan – Nandanvan (4337, 3-4 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Ascending and descending the hill, Gangotri Glacier, Moraines, Glaciers, Peaks of Shivling, Bhagirathi, Sudarshan, Thelu, and Kedardome.
  • Day Details: After breakfast, commence the day’s trek and head on out to the other side of Gangotri glacier till you reach the Nandanvan grasslands.
  • This trail is adorned with glaciers, streams, and moraines.
  • Post a 3-hour trek, arrive at Nandanvan and relish the vision that is the peaks of Shivling, Bhagirathi, Sudarshan, Thelu, and Kedardome.
  • Stop here and set up your tents for the night where you can retire.
Day 7
Trek from Nandanvan – Vasuki Tal (4880m, 4-5 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Moderate trail, Chaturangi Glacier, One trick crossing
  • Day Details: This day’s trek will be of a moderate level with trails ascending to the lake of Vasuki Tal.
  • For the most part of the journey, you will have to climb upon the Chaturangi Glacier.
  • There will be a challenging trick crossing just before the lake where the guide will offer a rope for safety purposes.
  • Upon arriving at the lake, take in the scenic sights of the place and come across other trekking teams scaling the nearby peaks.
  • Set up your camps here and get a good night’s sleep.
Day 8
Relaxation and acclimatization day at Vasuki Tal
  • Day Highlights: Leisure-filled day
  • Day Details: Due to the strenuous nature of the upcoming trekking journey, this day will be spent entirely relaxing at Vasuki Tal.
  • Spend the night here in your tents.
Day 9
Trek from Vasuki Tal – Khara Pathar (5480m, 3-4 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Network of mountains, Moraine trail
  • Day Details: Start your day with a healthy breakfast after which you can begin the day’s trek up the moraine-filled paths.
  • Witness the spellbinding network of mountains as you continue trekking until you arrive at Khara Pathar which is also circled by moraine.
  • Settle down your camps here and retire for the night.
Day 10
Trek from Khara Pathar - Shweta Glacier (5500m, 4-5 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Moraine, Glaciers, Massive mountains
  • Day Details: Get prepped for a fun day of Kalandi Pass trekking amidst a landscape comprising of glaciers, mountains, and moraine.
  • After a 4 to 5 hour trek, set up your base camp on the moraine and spend the night here in tents.
Day 11
Trek from Shweta Glacier – Kalindi Base Camp (5600m, 4-5 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Network of mountains, glaciers, trek briefing, safety measures orientation
  • Day Details: Start this exciting day with a quick breakfast and get started with a trek through breathtaking terrains, a network of mountains and glaciers.
  • After a 4 hour long trek, reach the Kalindi base camp from where you can even catch sight of the route lying ahead till the peak on a clear day.
  • You can stop here and build your camps while the guides will head out for a recce on the remaining trek trails to figure out the safest and easiest routes.
  • By nightfall, there will also be a safety briefing and orientation.
  • Then you can indulge in a sumptuous dinner and retire for the night. 
Day 12
Trek from Kalindi Base – Kalindikhal (5950m) – Arwatal (3980m, 8-13 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: Challenging Kalindikhal trek patches, 6000m high Himalayan Pass, Rajparav
  • Day Details: After rising early in the morning at about 1:00 AM, set off on an ascending hike through challenging trails depending on the snow and weather conditions.
  • This will entail crevasses and tricky patches which will require you to be roped for the entire climb as well as the descent.
  • You need to be extremely cautious of the snow all along the way as well as the hidden crevasses.
  • After a tasking climb with the help of ropes, arrive at the top of the 6000m high Himalayan pass.
  • Marvel at the jaw-dropping views when at the Kalindi Khal peak.
  • Then head on the downhill to the campsite through Rajparav and Arwatal with a few breaks along the way.

Day 13
Trek from Arwatal – Ghastoli (3796m, 5-6 hour trek)
  • Day Highlights: 3-4 river crossings, first signs of inhabitation and interactions with the soldiers, Arwa River
  • Day Details: This day comprises a 5-6 hour long trek where you can begin by surpassing 3-4 river crossings and a fetching walk.
  • Arrive at Ghastoli and encounter army establishment which form the first signs of inhabitation in the trek.
  • This is the border between Tibet and China thus is a crucial point with intense security.
  • Be greeted with a delicious cup of tea and interact with the soldiers.
  • Settle down your camps here beside the charming Arwa River.
Day 14
Trek from Ghastoli – Mana Village (5-6 hour trek), Drive from Mana Village – Badrinath – Auli (2 hour drive)
  • Day Highlights: Descending trails, Temple visit
  • Day Details: Wake up to a hearty breakfast and commence the day’s trek surpassing completely constructed trails from Ghastoli and descending walks till Mana or you can hitch a ride on the army truck.
  • Upon arriving at Mana take in the sheer beauty of this little hamlet which was the last settlement on the Indian side before the Tibet border was drawn.
  • Ride from here to the holy township of Badrinath where you can seek blessings from the god for the journey ahead.
  • Drive ahead and reach the popular skiing destination of Auli where you can retire in a comfortable lodge.
Day 15
Transfer from Auli – Dehradun (8-9 hour drive)
  • Day Highlights: The tour ends here
  • Day Details: Wake up to a heart-warming breakfast after which you can depart from Auli and bid adieu to its beautiful environs.
  • Continue onwards on your road journey to Dehradun from where you can head home, your Kalindikhal Pass trek comes to an end.
