The establishment of War Memorial dates back to 1923 when the then Commander in Chief of India, Lord Rawlinson laid its foundation. The museum was founded to mark the achievements of Garhwal Regiments. The war memorial is situated at the Parade Ground and forms the major attraction for tourists as well as natives. 

Tourists who love to explore the history of the Indian army also throng this museum quite often. One can also visit the Regimental museum situated in close proximity to this iconic site.
