The Sandal Castle was built in a commanding position at the edge of Wakefield city and is known for its central role in the battle of Wakefield in 1460 during the popular Wars of the Roses. Today the remains of this 13th century stone castle are studied and is reserved as a major part of the city‘s history.

The castle grounds are perfect for a peaceful and relaxing stroll while learning about the rich heritage and history of the site. Even though the castle has lost a major part of its structure it still is among the top places to go in Wakefield.
