Pulteney Bridge Overview

The architectural marvel, Pulteney Bridge is a historic structure built over River Avon to connect the city of Bath with the new town Bathwick. Renowned for its Palladian style structural design, the Pulteney Bridge is one of the four bridges in the world to have shops across its full length on both sides. The bridge, along with its horseshoe-shaped weir is now a World Heritage Site.

Pulteney Bridge is a famous attraction among the best places in Bath that lures millions of visitors into coming here because of its magnificent architecture, breathtaking views and historic significance. Commissioned by William Pulteney and designed by Robert Adam in the 1700s, the bridge was constructed as a link between Bath and Bathwick. The bridge is made of limestones with a horse-shoe shaped weir and a southern temple-like central bay with wings.

It is 45 metres long, 18 metres wide. The bridge is also classified as a World Heritage Site because of its Georgian style design. The bridge, flanked by shops throughout its length on both sides, offers great views of the locality. Since it is one of the most picturesque places to see in Bath, a trip to Pulteney Bridge is inevitable. There are also many cafes and restaurants lining the bridge to grab a bite or dine after a tiring day of walking.
