About the Tour:

This exciting tour of the Upper Alaknanda river rafting adventure gives you the chance to satiate all your adventure cravings by offering you a myriad of opportunities for white water rafting in the stunning surroundings of the Himalayas. Take your raft on one of the most revered rivers in the Indian Himalayas – Alaknanda, and better still to its upper stretches where you have wild rapids and changing landscapes in terms of gorges and forests.


This adventure tour will take you through a number of Grade III, IV to IV+ rapids including the famed Hillary Fall and Kakkar Fall. Starting from Chamoli, which is situated near the holy Badrinath temple to Rudraprayag, the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, this rafting expedition will also take you through the most revered pilgrim spots of Uttarakhand. End each day at the campsite on the banks of the river that is bestowed with a thick forest that serves as a brilliant backdrop and plays home to a variety of birds.

By Rail: Haridwar railway station is well connected to all major cities and towns of India like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Dehradun, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Patna, Gaya, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Kochi

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun serves as the nearest airport to Haridwar. Local vehicles can be availed from outside the airport to reach Haridwar by road from Dehradun.

5 Days / 4 Nights Alaknanda River Rafting Expedition Itinerary

Day 1
Haridwar to Jayalgarh | Learn the Basics of Rafting
Jayalgarh
  • Drive from Haridwar to the deluxe camp on the banks of the river Alaknanda at Jayalgarh early morning.
  • After breakfast get a briefing on rafting techniques and safety procedures from your rafting leader.
  • Go for a session of white water rafting on the Lower Alaknanda from Jayalgarh to Devprayag, the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers.
  • On the way to Deorprayag the rafting instructors will teach you various techniques of paddling, flips, re-flips, ‘Eddy in’, ‘Eddy out’, navigation techniques, and rescue skills.
  • Return to the camp at the end of the rafting trip in the evening.
  • Settle down in your camps, have dinner, and rest for the next day’s Upper Alaknanda river rafting adventure.
  • Overnight stay in Jayalgarh.
Day 2
Jayalgarh to Chamoli | Start from Grade II rapids till Nandaprayag
Nandaprayag
  • After a leisurely breakfast, drive along the Alaknanda river to reach Chamoli.
  • Upon reaching Chamoli, relax for a while post which you can start your river rafting adventure on Upper Alaknanda.
  • The day will start with a short practice drill followed by some white water bashing.
  • This day will entail rafting across 14 to 15 rapids of Grades II to IV+ over a span of 3 to 4 hours till Nandaprayag.
  • In the evening the get another briefing of safety procedures and the local customs, culture from the trip leader.
  • Camp on the banks of the river and spend the night in tents.
  • Overnight stay in Nandaprayag.
Day 3
Rafting from Nandaprayag to Karanprayag | Paddle like a Pro
Karnaprayag
  • After having a delicious breakfast in the morning get ready for the most challenging day of the trip that will entail surpassing a series of Grade IV/IV+ rapids.
  • This rafting route starting from Nandaprayag to Karnaprayag has around 20 rapids and takes about 5 hours to complete.
  • The day will start with a short practice drill followed by some white water bashing.
  • While rafting comes across the ‘Hillary Fall’ rapid, named after the legendry climber who during his ‘Ocean to Sky’ adventure could not go up the rapid in his Jetboat.
  • The river rafting adventure ends at Karnapraya where the Pinder River meets the Alaknanda.
  • End the day by unwinding at a beautiful beach campsite in Karnaprayag and retire for the night.
  • Overnight stay in Karnaprayag.
Day 4
Karnaprayag to Gauchar | Boast your rafting skills
Gauchar
  • Wake up in the morning and have breakfast by the river.
  • This day’s stretch is a rafting course comprising of paddling through Grade III+ to IV rapids for about 4 hours from Karanprayag to Gauchar through 10 to 12 rapids.
  • End the day’s session of battling the white waters of Alaknanda and rest after an exhausting day at camp on the beautiful banks at Gauchar.
  • Overnight stay in Gauchar.
Day 5
Raft from Gauchar to Rudraprayag | Depart to Haridwar with a lot of adventurous memories
Haridwar
  • After having your breakfast get ready for this last day of rafting from Gauchar to Rudraprayag entails meandering from the upper stretches of Alaknanda comprising of Grade III+/IV rapids.
  • It will take 4-5 hours with a lunch break to reach the pull-out at Rudraprayag.
  • Just before reaching Rudraprayag, encounter the Grade 5 rapid called ‘Kakkar Fall’ which is a massive constriction in the river.
  • End this adventure near the confluence of Alaknanda with the Mandakini valley at Rudraprayag.
  • From here, drive down about 4 hours to reach Haridwar from where you can continue with your onward journey.
  • Your Upper Alaknanda river rafting adventure ends here with lots of adventurous memories.

Know Before You Go for 5 Days / 4 Nights Alaknanda River Rafting Expedition

  • GST is applicable to the package cost.
  • Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations. Travelers littering may be fined.
  • Usage of the swimming pool at any accommodation is strictly according to government guidelines.
  • Carry dry snacks/food, granola bars, etc. from home. Carry a regular and another insulated water bottle with you, so that you can refill.
  • All international and domestic airfare, visa fees, airport tax, or any kind of insurance cover is not a part of the package.
  • ID proof is mandatory for each individual guest at the time of booking, and also upon arrival. PAN card will not be considered as a valid address proof.
  • The extra adventure activities and ropeways/cable cars will be at your own cost and are not included in the tour.
  • Rates may fluctuate with any change in services/hotels. The difference in the cost shall be borne by the client in case of any amendment in the package due to an increase in the number of guests.
  • The hotels are subject to their availability. In case they are not available, the travellers will be accommodated in a property of similar standard.
  • Thrillophilia reserves the right to rearrange the itinerary due to any kind of disturbance that occurred (i.e weather condition, political condition or any others) without changing the total number of days and without compromising any service.
  • All entry tickets for stupas, monasteries, sightseeing, state and entry fees, monument entrances, camera charges, etc. are not a part of the package.
