Day 1
Welcome to Madrid
  • Welcome to Madrid! Upon arrival, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check in and do not give in to jet lag! There is so much for you to see and do!
  • Begin the afternoon with lunch in one of the many open-air cafes to be found throughout Madrid. Afterwards, we recommend that you get acquainted with the city by choosing an optional tour such as 'Madrid City Hop-On Hop Off Tour', where you will have the opportunity to admire the architectural and cultural magnificence of Madrid at your leisure or try the 'Panoramic Madrid Sightseeing Tour' of Madrid, showcasing many of the city's elegant squares and famous attractions.
  • Later, visit the Catedral de la Almudena (Madrid Cathedral) as well as the Palacio Real, the largest royal palace in Western Europe, before savoring traditional Spanish paella and sangria at one of the terrazas around the Plaza de Oriente. Likewise you may prefer to see a Flamenco show at the world famous Corral de la Moreria!
Day 2
History of Madrid
  • Start your morning with café con leche in the Plaza Mayor before exploring the narrow streets and charming squares of the Austrias District. Afterwards, head to Puerta del Sol, considered to be the geographical center of the country and Madrid's answer to Times Square or Piccadilly Circus. Here you can see the statue of El Oso y el Madroño (The Bear and the Strawberry Tree) that is the emblem of Madrid. From here, continue along Calle del Alcalá to the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, the oldest art museum in Madrid, to see remarkable works by Spanish and Dutch masters. See the room of Goyas works if nothing else.
  • After lunch, visit the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, an exquisite gallery with an impressive collection ranging from Old Dutch masters to modernist masterpieces by Picasso. Then be sure to stop at the Fountain of Neptune (Fuente de Neptuno) and the San Jeronimo el Real church before making an afternoon visit to the Museo Nacional del Prado. You may want to purchase our optional tour 'Skip The Line: Prado Museum Express Ticket and Tour in Madrid'. You will avoid the lengthy queues and visit the main works including the 'Las Meninas' by Velazquez and 'The Family of Carlos IV' by Goya as well as other masterpieces by El Bosco and El Greco. You will then be free to explore other sections of the museum at your leisure.
  • Following your visit of the Prado (and time permitting) you may want to explore the sylvan pathways of the Botanical Gardens adjoining the museum or make a stop at the Casa Museo de Lope de Vega, the medieval house that was the home of Spain's most famed and prolific 16th century playwright. This evening we suggest you head to the nearby tascas of el Barrio de las Letras (Calle de las Huertas) where you can drink local wines like sherry and cava and sample assorted tapas such as fish, chorizo, cheese, eggs and olives.
Day 3
Madrid
  • Begin your day at the Reina Sofia, which will complete your tour of Madrid's Golden Triangle of Art. The Dalís and Tàpies are worth seeing, but Picasso's groundbreaking 'Guernica' is not to be missed! Leaving the modern concrete, glass and steel structure of the museum behind, continue to the Parque del Retiro for a relaxing stroll (and a bite to eat) in this oasis of calm. Stop at the Palacio de Cristal as well as the Glorieta del Angel Caldo before emerging into the Plaza de la Independencia where you will find the imposing Puerta de Alcala.
  • From here, continue to the Plaza de las Cibeles. Madrid's most famous fountain is found here at the meeting point of Alcalá and the Paseo del Prado, opposite the Banco de España. Sporting successes are traditionally celebrated in this square. Next, make your way along Madrid's Gran Vía for lunch and some shopping. Time permitting, stop at the Convento de las Descalzas Reales for a quick tour.
  • Finally, make your way to the Plaza de Espana, the Egyptian Temple of Debod, poised high on the edge of Parque del Oeste, and the Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida (Panteón de Goya). Some of Goya's most beautiful frescoes (restored in 1996) depict the Miracles of Saint Anthony on the interior of the cupola. The artist himself is buried in front of the altar. This evening, take the Teleférico de Madrid cable car ride across the Manzanares River and Parque del Oeste into the Casa de Campo. Enjoy an evening drink and dinner in one of the tavernas beside the lake.
Day 4
Flight to Barcelona
  • Welcome to Barcelona! Upon arrival, you will go through customs and immigration. Should you opt to purchase a transfer to your hotel; a representative will be waiting for you as you exit immigration. Arrive at your hotel, check in and do not give in to jet lag! There is so much for you to see and do!
  • This afternoon, make your way to Plaça de Catalunya, the cultural center of Barcelona, to enjoy tapas (or just a coffee) in one of the many open-air cafes that are located here. Afterwards, we recommend that you get acquainted with the city by choosing the optional tour 'Barcelona Hop-on Hop-off Tour: North to South Route', where you can discover the main sights of the city along three routes.
  • Later, enjoy an evening stroll along La Rambla (a favorite activity for locals and visitors alike) to the Mirador de Colon before heading to Barceloneta, the city's stylishly renovated waterfront. The relaxed atmosphere of this area makes it a great spot to sip drinks and savor a delicious seafood dinner while planning the rest of your stay in this charismatic city.
Day 5
Barcelona City Explorer
  • This morning, we suggest you start with the optional tour 'Barcelona Gothic Quarter Morning Walking Tour' where you will have a chance to explore the streets, squares, hidden corners and charming architecture of the Barri Gòtic, including the Catedral and the Palau del Rei. Afterwards, take some free time to shop in the area and stop for lunch at Barcelona's oldest restaurant, Can Culleretes (established in 1786).
  • Following lunch, we recommend the optional tour 'Artistic Barcelona Including Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia and Skip-the-Line Entry to Park Guell', which showcases the moderniste masterpieces of Catalonian architect, Antoni Gaudi. You will visit the famous Sagrada Familia cathedral and Parc Güell, Gaudi's whimsical fairytale-like park that has been designated an Unesco World Heritage Site. From here, you will continue to Passeig de Gràcia and visit the Manzana de la Discordia with Gaudi's Casa Batlló (as well as Casa Amatller, Casa Lleo Morera) and another Gaudí gem, Casa Milà (popularly known as La Pedrera).
  • After a busy day of sightseeing, leisurely explore L'Eixample, the 19th century district that expanded the city beyond the congested Barri Gòtic and Ciutat Vella. Stroll (and shop) Barcelona's widest avenue, the Passeig de Gràcia, before indulging on Catalan cuisine at Casa Calvet, a Gaudí-designed restaurant.
Day 6
Barcelona
  • Wake up early this morning and head to the Parc de la Ciutadella with its botanical gardens and zoo followed by a visit to La Ribera and the Museu Picasso, by far the most popular art museum in the city! Although the Picasso museum in Barcelona does not house the most famous Picasso paintings, the collection in Barcelona is unique, featuring early sketches and lesser known works, which show his development as an artist.
  • Now is a good time to stop and enjoy coffee and pastries at the Tèxtil Café, a delightful little spot tucked into the patio of the 14th century mansion containing the Museu Tèxtil. After a bit of refreshment, it's off to the Santa María del Mar. With its soaring vaults and colorful stained-glass windows, this cathedral is one of the best preserved Gothic monuments in the city.
  • Finally, make your way to Montjuic hill and Poble Espanyol de Barcelona, which was built for the 1929 World Fair held in Barcelona. You can spend the rest of the day here admiring the art at the Fundació de Joan Miró and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), which is housed in the grandiose national palace. You can also see the buildings of the Anella Olímpica from the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. At the summit you will find Montjuïc Castle and some of the best views of Barcelona. And for the grand finale - do not miss an evening show at the Magic Fountain. The spectacle of music, light and water is truly amazing and the perfect way to end your stay in beautiful Barcelona.
Day 7
Flight to Ibiza
  • Welcome to Ibiza! Arrive at the airport in Ibiza and proceed to your hotel. Should you desire, we offer private transfers where a representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in you're off to enjoy the sun, sand and surf!
  • Head to the coast and set yourself up at one of the many beaches on the island - Ibiza has 80 (yes, 80!) to choose from (swimsuit optional). Spend the afternoon basking in the sun and swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean before going out for a late dinner in Old Ibiza.
  • Afterwards, it's time to have some fun - island style! Ibiza didn't earn the title of 'world's party capital' for nothing. With seven major clubs hosting world-famous DJs, there is plenty to do in terms of nightlife and entertainment. So go on and party til the sun comes up!
Day 8
Relax in Ibiza
  • Whether you partied all night or not, today is all about relaxation. Leave the beaches behind and explore the history of Ibiza. Old Ibiza or D' Alt Vila (meaning High Town) is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the perfect place to start off the day with a coffee before wandering through the quaint cobblestone streets, browsing the shops of Sa Penya and getting some fresh air. Check out the castle, also known as Eivissa Castle and cemetery, Necropolis del Puig des Molins, containing more than 3,000 tombs from the Phoenician-Punic times. As part of the Museu Arqueologic d'Eivissa I Formentera, it educates visitors about the early history of the island (from 1554) to present day. Admission is free.
  • Then if you're up for it, rent a bike or moped and head out and about, exploring everything this tropical paradise has to offer in terms of natural beauty. Stop at Ses Salinas (also a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to take in this fragile Mediterranean ecosystem and find the perfect cove for a picnic. Or visit the charming village of San Gertrudis, in the geographical heart of the island. Steeped in tradition, but with a modern makeover, its main square (Plaça de l'Església) houses the whitewashed church as well as many hip new café bars and restaurants, in addition to the traditional Ibicenco establishments (try the bocadillo completo - a roll of tomato, cheese and Serrano ham). Any time of day is perfect for a visit to this village with its Bohemian style of living and eclectic mix of retail shops.
  • This evening, watch the sunset from the infamous Café del Mar in San Antonio. Stay for the party or head back to Old Town Ibiza and turn in early. Take a romantic stroll under the night sky before bed.
Day 9
Party and Water activity in Ibiza
  • Now that you're well rested, it's time to get active and enjoy the beach beyond the sand. Ibiza is a water lover's paradise so go snorkeling or swimming in the azure blue beauty of the Mediterranean Sea or try paragliding, wind surfing or water skiing.
  • This afternoon, take a ferry and head to Formentera. This tiny island features nearly untouched beaches and is a nice place to relax and unwind. Explore the natural terrain on foot or rent a bike. The beaches here are some of the best on the Mediterranean so don't be surprised to see people sans clothing. The island is known for its nude beaches. Alternately, head north to Santa Eulària des Riu. It's the second most visited location on the island after Eivissa. This area offers the only golf course on the island as well as beaches, shopping and the historical Puig de Missa, a hilltop church built in 1568.
  • This evening, take it easy in Santa Eularia. You won' find crazy all night parties here, but it does offer a great selection of bars and restaurants. Heading back towards the old town, Calle San Vicente is the best spot to get a good meal before enjoying an after dinner drink in one of the numerous bars on Calle San Jaime.
