Chopta Chandrashila Trek Overview

Nestled with the beauty of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba peaks, the Chopta Chandrashila Trek at an altitude of 12,083 ft., gives you mesmerizing views of nature's bounty. A visit to the holy Tugnath temple, famous for being the highest Shiva temple in the world offers you a vantage point in the trek.


During the trek, you can also get a view and experience the divine aura of the pilgrim hotspots - Rishikesh, Devprayag, and Rudraprayag. The trek journey also takes you through Haridwar, Sari, and Chopta, surrounded by the beauty of bountiful forests, rhododendron bushes. Do not miss the chance of gazing at the stars as you camp by the side of Deoria Tal Lake.

About the trekking experience:

  • Starting from Haridwar, the journey will take you through the famous Har ki Pauri, Chopta, and Sari along with the numerous tiny hamlets as you ascend to the top. You will also halt at the pilgrim cities- Rishikesh, Devprayag, and Rudraprayag.
  • Behold the mesmerizing views of hued meadows and pastures as you approach the pristine Deoria Tal Lake.
  • As you ascend to the top, enjoy the summit views of Chandrashila, Trishul, and Nanda Devi - which is India's second-highest peak.
  • The entire distance of around 30 KM, will take you through the world's highest Shiva temple - Tugntah temple.
  • Share your travel diaries with your friends as you rest by the beautiful campsite.
  • Hearty breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included in the package. If you like exploring different cuisines then try out the local Garhwali and Kumaoni delicacies in this region.
  • Ensure that you stay covered with thermals and enough jackets to withstand the temperature that is between 8°C to 15°C during the day and -5°C to 3°C at night.
  • All equipment, meal areas, accommodation, etc. are sanitized before and after every use to ensure the utmost safety and hygiene of the trekkers.

Chopta Chandrashila Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Haridwar; Enjoy the holy vibes that surround the pilgrim city
Haridwar
  • Start your journey from Haridwar, and on your way witness the holy Ganga and Alaknanda river
  • Cross the holy towns of Rishikesh, Devprayag, and Rudraprayag, and spot the famous Lakshman Jhula of Rishikesh
  • Head towards Kund village and enjoy the pristine beauty of Nandi Kund Lake
  • In the evening time, you can go for a short hike by the riverside and enjoy a delectable dinner on your return
  • Overnight stay in the lodge at Kund village
Day 2
Chalkot; Enjoy the views at the birding paradise
Camp Chalkot - Himalayan Eco Lodges
  • After a hearty breakfast at Kund, get ready for the trek experience
  • Trek towards Kakragad - the famous birding paradise
  • Enjoy views of Himalayan birds or sit by the side of natural pools
  • Later, trek past the forests & Himalayan villages to arrive at Makkumat
  • After Makummat, trek towards the picturesque Chalkot 
  • Enjoy lip-smacking dinner and later enjoy a starry view from your camps
  • Overnight stay at Chalkot
Day 3
Deoria Tal Lake; Spot the mighty Chaukambha peak

  • After a delicious breakfast at the campsite, start your trek
  • On your way towards Sari, get mesmerized by the beauty of forests of oaks, pines, and rhododendrons
  • As you reach Sari, trek towards the Deoria Tal Lake which is at an altitude of 2438 m
  • After spending a couple of hours by this majestic lake, also spot the four-pillar shaped mighty Chaukhamba peak
  • Enjoy a hearty dinner in nature’s lap at the Chalkot campsite
  • Overnight stay at Chalkot’s campsite
Day 4
Kund; Mediate at world’s highest Shiva temple - Tugnath
Kund
  • Enjoy a delectable breakfast at Chalkot and gear up for another day thrilling day of the trek
  • Trek through slopes of the colorful meadows in Chopta
  • Trek towards world’s highest Shiva temple - Tugnath temple
  • Enjoy an appetizing refreshment during the trek and continue your trek towards the summit of Chandrashlla peak
  • Enjoy the summit views of big Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi - which is India’s second-highest peak
  • Later, descend towards Kund
  • As you arrive at the quaint village, share your trek stories over the dinner table
  • Overnight stay at Kund village
Day 5
Haridwar; Time to head back home
Haridwar
  • After a hearty breakfast at Kund village, head towards Haridwar
  • Arrive at Haridwar and spot the famous Har ki Pauri
  • On your arrival in the pilgrim city head towards your next destination, or go back home

Know Before You Go for Chopta Chandrashila Trek

  • Children below the age of 7 years are not recommended for this trek.
  • Consult a physician before undertaking the trek. Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek.
  • Professional guide(s) are available to ensure high safety and more information and personal attention which are necessary to appreciate a trek. Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the trek.
  • The trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travelers littering may be fined.
  • Do not encourage trekking during the night unless it is a part of the itinerary and a guide is with you; this might lead to unforeseen mishaps.
  • Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
  • Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations.
  • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
  • In case, the trek needs to be canceled, the authorities should be informed beforehand.
  • Please provide a valid ID at the time of check-in.
  • The exact location will be shared with you post-booking.
  • Neat and clean vehicle for the journey with experienced driver especially for hilly terrains available.
  • All the activities depend upon the weather.
  • Camping is very basic in nature. One must not expect luxuries. Electricity may be available only at a few locations.
  • Mobile & laptop charging points may/may not be available on campsites at a common point.
  • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the package.
  • Carry dry snacks/food from home (you will save a lot of money). Carry water bottles with you, so that you can refill.
  • Keep your luggage minimum; the more you carry, the more you hassle.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government are to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of mask recommended.
