What is the Sandakpur trek route?
Trekking across the therapeutic snowline of Sandakpur is ideally a six day tour by the Indo-Nepal border. Starting from the ManeBhanjan to Sandakpur view point you trek and halt at many spots, refer below to plan your itinerary for the trek.
Day 1- Arriving at the base camp - Manebhanjan
ManeBhanjan is a small town on the Indo-Nepal border and is the base camp for the Sandakpur trek. Trekkers coming down from Kolkata or Siliguri are taken to ManeBhanjan to begin thier trek.
Day 2- Trek from Manebhanjan to Tumling
The West Bengal trek route to Tumling is where the Indo-Nepal border lines blur, it is advised to keep your permits, passport and ID’s handy. Your first trek destination on the Sandakpur trek is to Tumling which is about 11 kms away, taking about 5 hours to complete it. The ascending route will kick start the adventure for the visitor.
Day 3- From Tumling to Singalila National Park
While you're enjoying the cold chilly weather your trek continues on day three from Tumling towards Singalila National Park. The complete trek time from Tumling to Singalila National Park is about 5 hours. The trek amidst the forests by the bamboo glades urges you to look out and explore. Trekkers halt for stay at Kalapokhri.
Day 4- Kalipokhri to Sandakphu
Heading to Sandakphu, brings you a delightful view of rare rhododendrons across the thick forest area. The 8 km (4 hours) trek leads to Sandakphu Peak, you can’t not miss the breathtaking snowline view of Mt. Everest, Makalu and Mt. Kanchenjunga. The snowline of the trio from the top is worth the struggle. The trek also includes an exciting overnight stay at the trekkers hut.
Day 5- Hike from Sandakphu to Srikhola
Your descending trek of 17km of seven hours, begins from Sandakphu. It takes about five hours to reach Gurdum after which you are given time to rest. The second half of descending resumes to reach Srikhola in about two hours. Achieving this distance you encounter many scenic spots and rare species of birds and flora.
Day 6- From Srikhola to New Jalpaiguri
The last lap of the adventure is from Srikhola to New Jalpaiguri, a 130 km drive across the misty roads amidst the tall trees and hill slopes. You are dropped off at New Jalpaiguri and the journey ends.
