Places To Visit In Nairobi
The word Ngong is taken from a Maasai phrase - "enkong'u emuny" which refers to the rhinoceros’ springs that comes from the spring which lies in proximity to the Ngong Town. It is a prominent weekend destination for visitors from around the country. The whole mountain range is actually a gazetted forest reserve that is spread over an area of 21,000 sq. km. Like most other trusts and sanctuaries in the region, the Giraffe Centre was established for the conservation of the Rothschild species of the Giraffe, which is typically found only in the grasslands of East Africa. Highlights: Initiated by Jock Leslie Melville, the centre was originally started as a captive breeding place for a captured baby giraffe. Since then, the centre has seen many different species of giraffes coming up in its precincts. The centre is also equipped with an education centre for tourists. Visitors can entertain themselves with the heart warming views of feeding giraffes from a raised platform. You can also view a number of warthogs in the centre.
