Inverness Museum & Art Gallery Overview

One of the top tourist places to visit in Inverness. the museum and the art gallery are located in the historic center of the city and are a haven for history and art lovers. The Gallery is known to host many exciting programs and exhibitions throughout the year of local fine art and craft.

The Inverness museum was first opened in the year 1826 and since then the museum went through a lot of transformation and was recently restored in 2007. The ground floor of the Museum is known to have Scottish geology and natural history. You will also find archaeology of the Highlands and artifacts such as the Pictish stones.

The first floor of the museum is known to have recent highlands history such as the Jacobite memorabilia, Inverness silver, Highland weapons, and bagpipes. The first floor also hosts many exhibitions throughout the year. The Museum also has many artifacts related to the freedom of Inverness such as a gold ring and ornate Freedom casket presented to local businessman Charles Fraser, an 18th-century Burgess ticket, and also an illuminated scroll commemorating the 2002 Freedom presentation
