Overview
The International Antarctic Center offers a complete access to one of Christchurch’s most interactive indoor attractions. With your admission tickets, enjoy the true vibe of Antarctica without actually travelling there. You can step into various zones- from chilling storm room recreating Antarctica-like conditions to 4D theatre, featuring a short film about the continent. Moreover, you can enjoy various exhibits, meet little penguins and even enjoy a ride on the vehicle used in polar region research all at your own pace.

About the Activity:
- Explore a freezing cold Antarctic Storm Room with strong winds running in approximately 30 minutes and temperature of around -8°C, just like in Antarctica.
- Enjoy a guided Hagglund Ride on an outdoor track full of turns and tilts on the iconic Hagguland vehicle (designed to travel on ice and snow).
- Greet the adorable little blue penguins in the Penguin Encounter. You can watch them walking here and there, playing around, and gathering for their feeding time.
- Watch a short movie about the continent in the 4D Theatre, where the wonderful light and sound effects, along with moving seats, lets you enjoy an experience that’ll live with you forever.

Know Before You Go
- Respect the penguins. Hence, guests must avoid touching, tapping on glass, or loud bangs. The little blue penguins are rescue birds, and stress affects them.
- Guests must listen to the briefing before entering. Also, it is advisable to secure loose items during the ride and in the storm room.
- Guests must supervise their children at all times in the riding area, as well as the storm room and around the exhibits.
- Note that flash photography is restricted in areas where there are animals.
- Guests are prohibited from touching the penguins, even if they come close to interact.
- Note that the storm room operates on scheduled cycles. Once the doors are closed, guests will have to wait for the next session.
- No eatables are allowed inside the exhibition spaces. If guests need to consume meals, they must head to designated spaces only.
- Kids must be a minimum height of 1.2m for the Hägglund ride. This is a firm safety requirement because the vehicle climbs steep slopes and moves at sharp angles. Moreover, kids aged 6 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult during the ride.
- For kids aged 0 to 4 years, one paying adult can bring up to three children in this age group.
