Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its huge stone buildings, called "great houses," built by the ancient Chacoan people. These buildings are carefully aligned with the sun and stars, showing their smart design and knowledge of astronomy. What makes Chaco special is that it's in a remote desert but was once a busy center of trade and culture between 850 and 1250 AD. This park is also home to 13 major ruins and over 400 smaller archaeological sites, each offering deep insight into Chacoan life. You'll also find mysterious roadways, petroglyphs, and one of the darkest night skies in the U.S.—perfect for stargazing.
