The third highest peak in the world, Kanchenjunga rises as high as 8,586 meters. Although it has 16 peaks, there are 5 major peaks namely the main peak, the west peak, the central peak, the south peak and the Kangbachen. All of these peaks possess a different height and lie in the different national borders of Nepal, India and Bhutan too.
The main peak of Kanchenjunga is the highest with a height of 8,586 meters. It is the same peak which crowned this mighty mountain as the third highest mountain in the world. It is situated in the North Sikkim of India and Taplejung of Nepal.
Only 20-25 climbers per year have reached the summit of this peak. The second highest peak of Kanchenjunga rises as high as 8,505 meters. Known as the west peak of Kanchenjunga, this peak is also popular by the name Yalung Kang. It is located in Taplejung in Provine 1 in Nepal.
Elevated up to 8,494 meters, the third highest peak of Kanchenjunga is Kanchenjunga South. It also shares its beauty with the national boundaries of India as well as Nepal. The fourth highest peak of Kanchenjunga is the central summit which has a height of 8,482 meters.
You could spot it sharing its location between the northern park of the India state Sikkim as well as Taplejung of Province 1 in Nepal. The shortest among these top 5 tallest summits are Kangbachen with a height of 7,903 meters. It is situated in the national boundaries of Nepal in Taplejung of Province 1.
Pursuit of Kanchenjunga summit
Of all the 14 peaks over 8,000 meters in the world, Kanchenjunga is the second least climbed summit. In fact, the highest mountain of the world, Mt. Everest is climbed more often. While only 20-25 climbers successfully reach the summit of Kanchenjunga per season, Everest receives 300-350 climbers per season.
Journey from India:
If you also wish to join the adventure and add on to the number of climbers ascending the mountain Kanchenjunga an year, there are two main routes which could help you achieve the same. First of all in the case of India, you must reach the North Eastern state of India, Sikkim.
Sikkim has a small town called Yuksom which is just 125 KM away from the state capital Gangtok. One needs to reach here and begin their expedition to the exotic terrains, flora and fauna of Kanchenjunga.
Journey from Nepal:
Besides this, in case you wish to start your journey in Nepal, you would be required to reach Suketar which is the nearest town to the two base camps of Nepal namely North Base Camp on Kanchenjunga Glacier and South Base Camp on Yalung Glacier.
Although you could pick any one of these according to your preference it is suggested to go with the former one as it is the safest among these two. Not to mention, if you are perfectly prepared and ready to go on the adventure, there is no difficulty which could count.
