The Kuari Pass is situated at an altitude of approximately 12,500 ft, surrounded by the Garhwal Himalayan mountain peaks, the most famous being Mt. Nanda Devi. Kuari Pass has gained popularity for its hiking trails that boast nature’s bounty, with the lush greens, vivid flower meadows, snow-clad mountain peaks and nearby village settlements are a constant trekking view.
The trek to the Kuari Pass is that of a moderate to easy difficulty as the terrain isn’t too steep or exhausting, making it ideal for even first-time trekkers and kids above the age of 8.
Total distance and height covered during the trek?
The trek to Kuari Pass commences from Joshimath which is at the height of 6150 ft. Once in Joshimath you will be travelling to Dhak village, at a distance of around 12 kms it is at an elevation of 6750 ft. Further, continuing the journey from Dhak to Tugasi village by trekking for 3.5 kms, you will reach at the height of 8050 ft; from here, another 2 km trek to Gulling village will get you at an altitude of 9,000 ft.
The final half of the first lag is from Gulling village to Gulling top at about 9600 ft, and it is a short trek of about 500-600 metres. After getting to and resting at Gulling top, there will be a trek of about 5.5 kms to the Camp, at about 11,000 ft km. The route is covered with splendid Oak, Rhododendron ( pink and white) and Walnut forests but also gets steep in parts of the ascend.
Once at Camp, you will be trekking to Kuari Pass via Khullar top, which is at the height of 12,200, you will be traversing through the broken bridge and the stream with a strenuous climb to get at 12,500 ft finally. The complete expedition will take around 5-6 hours while trekking for 8-9 kilometres.
From Kuari Pass you will have the exquisite views of all the major Himalayan mountain peaks including the Kedarnath Peak, Kedar Dome, Chaukhambha, Balakun, Neel Kantha, Mukut Parvat, Kamet, Abhi Gamin, Mana I, Ghori Parvat, Hathi Parvat, Dronagiri, Kalanka, Chang Bang, Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghunti.
After camping the night at the Pass, you will be trekking back to Dhak village from here you will be driving to Joshimath to complete the whole trudge. The journey from Joshimath to Kuari Pass will take around 5-6days by the end of which you would have travelled 31 kms. Also, you would have covered an elevation of 5,750 ft by the end of the trek to the Pass.
