The only way to commute from Pune to Pawna Lake is by road. The Pune to Pawna Lake road trip is 54.4 km long via NH 48, and the journey takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. You could also use the old Mumbai-Pune highway, which will also take the same amount of time, and the distance is 55.1 km.
So it does not matter which road you will take, the distance and time required for the journey are approximately the same! However, driving on the old Mumbai Pune highway is tricky after sunset, so it is advisable that you take the NH 48.
There are two ways by which you could go from Pune to Pawna Lake- by road and by train.
By Road
When you book a camp date with the Pawna Lake Camps website, they instantly send you a confirmation email with the exact Google map location of the campsite. When you start driving in from Pune, you just need to set the location on your GPS and voila, you can just follow it there!
Route 1:
You could reach Pawna Lake from Pune via Kamshet. The whole journey is around 60 km long and takes 1 hour 30 minutes. From Pune, you will go to Pimpari Chinchwad, then to Kamshet, move to Pawnanagar, and you will then have reached Pawna Lake Camping Site.
Route 2:
You leave Pune via the Mote Mangal Karyalay Road, and from there, you take Laxmi Road and then Dagadi Pool Road. You reach Kumbhar Wada Chowk and turn left to take Veer Santaji Ghorpade Road, which will take you to Congress Road. From here, you take the MH SH 114 and finally the Ganeshkhind Road.
Then you take the NDA Pashan Road and then the Sus Road. Here, you take a U-turn and continue on NH 48. When you pass the Mata Amardevi Temple, take the lest turn to Parandwadi Road, where you will see the BADE Accident and Multispecialty hospital. From here, go straight past Shradha Estates, and you will have reached Pawna Lake Camping Site.
By Train
You take a train from Pune Railway Station to Kamshet Railway Station. From here, you can hire a jeep to take you all the way to Pawna Lake Camping site via Pawnanagar. These trains are pretty frequent, and you will find one every 45 minutes. The jeep ride is 22 km long and should take less than 45 minutes.
You may have to haggle a bit with the driver, but they will still charge somewhere in the range of 1000-1500 INR. Pawna Lake Camp is a must-visit for someone who lives in Pune, and it can even be an impromptu trip! You just have to send an email to the camp mail ID, and if they have a slot left, just hop into your car and drive in for a lovely afternoon listening to music by the lake, having a bonfire and a barbeque by the dam!
