The Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford

The artifact collection in the Pitt Rivers Museum along with audio recordings and manuscripts is complemented by an equally large and important collection of fieldwork and other photographs. The objects in the museum are arranged not by time, but rather by type or region and include phenomenal objects of ritual significance, everyday domestic objects, plus objects made for tourists or trade. In 1844, Lt-General Augustus Pitt Rivers founded the Pitt Rivers Museum, he was the one who donated his collection to the University of Oxford with the condition that a permanent lecturer in anthropology must be appointed.

The museum staff is involved in teaching Archaeology and Anthropology at the University even today.
