Jhula Devi Temple, which is 7 km from Ranikhet and surrounded by Chaubatia orchards, is a famous 8th-century shrine to Maa Durga. The deity is famously sitting on a wooden jhula (swing), which is where it gets its name. Legend has it that she showed up in a shepherd's dream, which led the villagers to find her idol and build the temple to keep tigers away.Today, walls covered in thousands of votive bells stand for wishes that have come true and faith. The simple Kumaoni-style buildings, with wooden pillars and iron-plated doors, give the place a rustic feel. Tarikhet is small, yet popular hill station situated at distance of 8 km from the town of Ranikhet. This village is a famous as a momentous site during the India’s struggle for independence.
