The Malana Circular Trek

 

Malana Village Trek is one of the popular Trekking spots in Himachal near Chandra Khanni Pass. Malana is a tribal village, which is considered as the oldest democracy in the world. The trek ends at the Baralacha Pass on the Manali-Leh road.


This easy to perform trek leads you through picturesque and pleasing landscape, birch forests, rhododendron bushes, lush meadows which gives you awe-inspiring views - from the snow-capped Dhaula Dhar in the south, to Hanuman Tibba at the head of the Solang Valley and the Ghalpo peaks in Lahaul. The appropriate periods to visit this are, March to June and May to Nov. The permission must be obtained from the head of the villagers to visit the important places in the village. There are nearly 1100 persons in the village.


The people of Malana are rough and tough. We will visit Rumsu, which is located in Kullu. There is the Roerich art Gallery, Nicholas Roerich Art Museum is situated at Naggar village. It exposes the tourists to the rich historicity of Himachal Pradesh.


There is the snowy range of the area lying between the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges in the Bara Banghal area of the Central Himachal Pradesh. After this we will visit the Parbati valley, hemmed in by giant pinnacled mountain peaks.

Day 01:


Manali – Naggar – Rumsu 2378 meter.


On the first day, we will drive from Manali to Naggar. The distance is 25 kms by jeep. After that, a trek will start from Naggar to Rumsu. Stay overnight in a camp near Rumsu village.


Day 02:


Rumsu – Chanderkhani base camp (6 hrs) ht. 2400 meter


After breakfast, our trek will start for the Chanderkhani base camp. Walk up to the base camp via a forest of oak, popular, pine, meadow of wild flowers and Rhododendron bushes. Overnight stay at Chanderkhani base in camps.


Day 03:


Base camp – Chanderkhani pass (ht. 3660 miter.) – Malana (5-6 hrs)


After an early morning breakfast, a trek will start to Malana village via Chanderkhani pass. The village is set out from the rest of Kullu valley. Malana is a tribal village, which is considered as the oldest democracy in the world. The permission must be obtained from the head of the villagers to visit the important places in the village and one has to be careful to not touch the sacred places and monuments. Stay at night in Malana village in a camp.


Day 04:


Malana - Jari (5-6 hrs)


After breakfast, we will explore Malana village. From here we start trekking to Jari. Thereafter we will drive our way back to Manali.


(Optional: We can also drive to the Manikaran hot water spring and take natural hot bath then return to Manali.)

Staff: experienced English speaking guide, cook, porters or ponies.
