About the Tour:

Embark on an adventurous 9-day bike trip as you ride the powerful KTM 390 Adventure bike scaling the national highways that slither through the Himalayan mountains. Uncover the mystic charms of the astonishing Spiti Valley which is a fusion of lush green valleys coupled with cold and barren mountain deserts. The tour will help you to ride through some of the most challenging roads that are full of spell bounding views of the valleys and the majestic Himalayas.

Starting from Chandigarh, you'll circle across the charming villages of Sarahan, Chitkul, Nako, Tabo and Kaza which reflect the fascinating blend of the Indo-Tibetan culture and then ultimately loop back to Chandigarh. Travelling through gorgeous landscapes you'll be making various pit stops including the 1000-year-old Key Monastery, colour changing Chandratal Lake, highest motorable village - Komik and many others.

How to Reach:

By Air: The easiest way to travel to Spiti is by air. The nearest airport is Chandigarh International Airport which operates frequent flights across the country.

By Road: Another option is the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) which operates buses from nearby states and Union territories on a daily basis.

By Rail: Chandigarh Junction Railway is also a feasible option as it is well-connected to other major cities in India and is closer to Spiti Valley.

Day 1
Arrival in Chandigarh | Meet Your Fellow Riders
Chandigarh

Upon your arrival in Chandigarh, reach your pre-booked hotel and complete the check-in formalities. Rest for a while and meet your fellow riders and the road captain, who will be leading the entire trip, brief you about the terrain, and draw out a day-by-day final plan. After the briefing, you will be introduced to the KTM 390 Adventure motorcycles that you will be riding for the rest of the tour. Dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel in Chandigarh.

Day 2
Chandigarh to Narkanda | The Apple Capital of India
Narkanda

Post-check-out from your hotel in Chandigarh, ride early towards Narkanda on the Himalayan Expressway. On the way, you will pass through various small villages in the lower Himalayan range that offer stunning views of the valleys and the mountains. Take a short lunch break, after which you will head towards Narkanda, known as the fruit bowl of Himachal Pradesh. End the day's ride after reaching the hotel in Narkanda for an overnight stay.

Day 3
Narkanda to Chitkul | The Last Inhabited Village at the Indo-Tibetan Border

Post-check-out from your hotel in Narkanda, leave early for Chitkul Village. On your way, take in the beautiful views of Kinnaur Valley. Travel along the Sutlej river till Karcham village, from where you will take a right turn towards Chitkul, following the Baspa river. Reach Chitkul, the last inhabited village before the Indo-China border, and visit the famous ‘Hindustan ka Akhri Dhaba’ for an amazing meal. Overnight stay and dinner at hotel/homestay in Chitkul.

Narkanda to Chitkul Distance: 176 Km | Duration: 6 Hours

Chitkul to Kalpa | Treasure the Sacred Mount Kinnaur Kailash

Post-check-out from your hotel in Chitkul, ride early towards Kalpa. Start your ride back towards Karcham, from where you will proceed deeper into the valley towards Powari Village. At Powari, take a left to ride to ReoKong Peo, which is the main town of Kinnaur district, from where you will proceed to Kalpa. Spend the night in the beautiful Kalpa Village from where you can see the Kinnaur Kailash mountains. Overnight stay at camp/homestay in Kalpa.

Chitkul to Kalpa Distance: 60 Km | Duration: 2 Hours, 20 Minutes

  • Start your day with a delicious breakfast, as the morning's beauty sets the tone for an unforgettable journey.
  • Check out and commence the ride towards Karcham, then head deeper into the valley towards picturesque Powari.
  • Turn left at Powari to reach ReoKong Peo, Kinnaur's main town. From here, continue your ride to the charming Kalpa.
  • Relish the night, gazing at the beauty of the Kinnaur Kailash mountains from your homestay in Kalpa.
  • Rest in a cozy camp or homestay, embracing Kalpa's serene ambiance. An overnight stay amid nature's beauty awaits.
Day 5
Kalpa to Kaza | Explore the 'Ajanta of the Himalayas'

Post-checkout from your homestay in Kalpa, ride towards Kaza. Pass through Khab Bridge and then proceed to Nako, which is the last village in Kinnaur Valley. Here you can take a short stop near Nako Lake. Hit the road again and cross Sumdo Village to enter Spiti Valley. Take a detour on the right to visit the 500-Year-Old Mummy in the Gue Village. Stop by the Tabo Monastery before reaching Kaza and checking into your hotel.

Kalpa to Kaza Distance: 208 Km | Duration: 5 Hours, 30 Minutes

  • Begin with an early hearty breakfast, gearing up for an exhilarating ride to Kaza, your gateway to Spiti Valley.
  • Ride on the Indo-Tibetan highway, crossing Khab Bridge where you can witness the confluence of Spiti and Sutlej River.
  • Proceed to Nako, Kinnaur's last village and stop near Nako Lake for a quick scenic break and refreshing views.
  • Ride onward, crossing Sumdo's threshold, officially entering the captivating realm of Spiti Valley.
  • Spot the Gue Village gate 3 km past Sumdo; take a detour to visit a 500-year-old mummy at Gue Monastery—a unique experience.
  • Discover the "Ajanta of the Himalayas," Tabo Monastery- the oldest continuously operating Buddhist enclave in India and the Himalayas.
  • Conclude the day's adventure in Kaza, and nestle in for the night in a cozy hotel, ready for more exploration.
Day 6
Sightseeing around Kaza | Send out Postcards Stamped at the Top of the World

Wake up early and head out for a sightseeing tour around Kaza. Begin by visiting Komik, Asia's highest village. You will then travel down to Hikkim & explore the world's highest post office. Continue to Langza Village and visit the Lang Temple. Next, visit the picturesque Key Monastery and continue towards the charming Kibber Village. Later, visit the Chicham Bridge and return to your hotel for an overnight stay in Kaza.

  • First, you will be visiting the highest village in Asia, Komik, which literally translates to ‘eye of a snow cock’.
  • You will then proceed to Hikkim for a visit to the world’s highest post office and send postcards to your loved ones.
  • After sending out a postcard, you will be driving to Langza, a village that is home to the ancient Lang Temple which is estimated to be around 1000 years old.
  • Next, ride towards the world-famous Key Monastery and walk past its beautifully painted walls.
  • You will then go farther up the valley to the picturesque village of Kibber to treasure the expanses of beautiful landscapes and immeasurable beauty of the snow-tipped mountains.
  • End your day at the Chicham Bridge which is also Asia's highest bridge.

Kaza to Chandratal Lake | Explore Glistening Lake that Changes Colours Throughout the Day

Post-check-out from your hotel in Kaza, ride towards Chandratal Lake, located on the Kaza-Manali road. Take in the beautiful scenery as you visit Chandratal, a beautiful lake with a striking backdrop of the Chandra Bhaga mountain range that keeps changing its appearance throughout the day. After admiring the beautiful lake, check into your pre-booked camp near Chandratal Lake for an overnight stay.

Post-check-out from your campsite in Chansratal Lake, ride towards Manali. Take in the beautiful views of Geypan Peaks on the way and pass through the beautiful Atal Tunnel to reach Manali. You can spend some time at leisure exploring the Mall Road of Manali for shopping. Later, go to your hotel in Manali for an overnight stay.

Know Before You Go for Chandigarh To Spiti Bike Expedition | KTM Special

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; it is advisable that you take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • The hotels are subject to their availability. In case they are not available, the travellers will be accommodated in a property of similar standard.
  • Transportation during the trip would be in Non AC & Non-Heater vehicles. Please wear clothes according to the weather while travelling.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the tour. The advisable baggage weight is 60 litres as you might have to carry the luggage to the backup vehicle, the accommodation, etc.
  • Pay heed to the tour guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound tour.
  • All entry tickets for stupas, monasteries, sightseeing, state and entry fees, monument entrances, camera charges, permits, etc. are not a part of the package.
  • All the travellers are requested to carry a copy of their medical certificate (if any) with them.
  • ID proof is mandatory for each individual guest at the time of booking, and also upon arrival. PAN card will not be considered as a valid address proof.
  • Rates may fluctuate with any change in services/hotels. The difference in the cost shall be borne by the client in case of any amendment in the package due to an increase in the number of guests, hotel change, etc., before the beginning of the trip.
  • In case a rider leaves the bike in the middle of the trip, charges for re-transporting the bike to the destination will be borne by the rider.
  • Any additional fuel for the bikes, any charges for spares parts and damage caused to the bikes, etc. will be charged at extra.
  • Check your bikes properly before every day's ride and keep the tour guide informed of the same.
  • Always carry your driver's license, wear helmets and riding gear, etc., while riding a bike.
  • For safety purposes, a biking tour is not recommended for women who are more than 3 months pregnant, anyone that has had major surgery, or has a broken leg/arm, has chronic back or neck pains, etc.
  • Any personal expenses or items of personal nature will not be included in the package. Any meals or transfers not mentioned in the itinerary are to be considered an exclusion in the deal. Any kind of drink (alcoholic, aerated, or mineral water) is not included in the package cost.
  • There will be a refundable security deposit per bike depending on the variant selected. Please ensure you pay that in advance and carry the receipt with you at all times to get a refund later.
  • Any breakage or damage of any items at the stays will be charged at actuals.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government is to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of mask recommended.
  • GST is applicable to the package cost.
  • Rescheduling Policy for Private (Standard & Deluxe Package) & Group Bookings: 1) If rescheduling is made 7 days after the Booking Date till 15 days prior to the Date of Travel then 30.0% of the total tour cost will be charged as rescheduling fees. | 2) If rescheduling is made 0 days to 15 days before the Date of Travel then 100.0% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees. | 3) If bookings are made 15 days before the Date of Travel no rescheduling & modifications will be made.
  • Rescheduling Policy for Private (Super Deluxe) & Hotel Specific Bookings: No modification or Rescheduling will be catered. A standard cancellation policy will be applicable for such cases.
