Know Before You Go for Maritime Museum of San Diego
- The museum sits right along the waterfront, so the weather can feel windy, sunny, or slightly chilly depending on the time of day.
- Many historic vessels have steep ladders, tight corners, and uneven wooden flooring, so wearing comfortable closed shoes is a smart idea.
- Some ships or interior sections may be temporarily inaccessible due to restoration work or safety checks.
- The submarine visit is exciting but can feel narrow and confined, and may not be suitable for guests with mobility concerns or severe claustrophobia.
- There aren’t too many food options inside the museum itself, but the harbour area nearby has plenty of cafés and casual dining spots.
- Please watch your step at all times as decks can be uneven and ladders may feel steeper than regular staircases. Moreover, avoid running, pushing, or leaning over railings while onboard the ships.
- Follow marked pathways and listen to staff guidance, especially in narrow or crowded areas.
- Smoking and littering are not allowed within the museum premises or onboard the vessels.
- Guided tours are not included in the standard admission and can be booked separately at the venue for an additional fee.
- Visitors can opt for a 45-minute narrated Historic Bay Tour, available on-site for approximately USD 10 per person.
- A longer 75-minute narrated Naval History Bay Tour is also available for around USD 15, usually operating on weekends.
- Participation in bay tours is subject to weather conditions, operational schedules, and seat availability.
