Overview

About the Activity:

  • Situated in the lofty Garhwal Himalayas, the Kedarkantha peak offers a very accessible trek, anytime of the year. Pack your bags for this 6 days trek to the exotic peak.
  • Start the journey with a visit to the Govind National Park which is a treasure house of flora and fauna such as leopards, bears, musk deer and many birds!
  • Days will be warm but nights are to watch out for as sub-zero temperatures are a common phenomenon. All the challenges aside, at an altitude of 3800m/12,500 feet, the trek promises a sweeping view from the peak.
  • This package includes food, accommodation and transportation from Dehradun to Sankri and return.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 -

    Start the trip with a drive from Dehradun to Sankri via Mussourrie, alongside, you can see the beautiful Yamuna and Tons rivers.

    You will also cross beautiful pine forests.

    It will take 8 hours to reach Sankri.

    Upon your arrival in Sankri, explore the hamlet where you will start the trek.

    Stay overnight at the hotel, Wild Orchid.

  • Day 2 -

    After breakfast, set out on a moderate hike which goes through the forest.

    Walk to Saur village and then climb up till we reach a small pond, Juda-ka-Talab, which is frozen during winter.

    As you continue climbing up, you will get fleeting glimpses of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

    One more hour of hiking will take you to the meadows where you will camp overnight in tents.

    It will take 3-4 hours to complete today's trek.

  • Day 3 -

    Kedar Kantha base becomes your destination for the day and start for it post breakfast.

    Today will be a busy day for the shutter bugs as the trek route is beautiful with open views on all side and vast snow fields decorated with green patches.

    Reach the base where you will camp overnight in tents.

    The trek will take 4-5 hours.

  • Day 4 -

    Head out to enjoy the views from the summit

    The distance to the summit is not long but the climb is steep and depending up on the snow conditions then you will pick the best route-and it will take about 2-3 hours.

    You will be able to see all the mountains of the Yumnotri and the valleys.

    Then descend the peak and trek all the way down to Juda-ka-Talabor, an alternate campsite but it depends on the route you choose.

    Stay overnight in tents.

    Today's trek will take 6-7 hours.

  • Day 5 -

    Return to Sankri after an early breakfast.

    It would be a short trek and will only lasts a couple of hours.

    Check in to the hotel at Sankri.

    Rest of the day is free to explore the village.

    Stay overnight at Sankri.

  • Day 6 -

    After breakfast, board the vehicle and start driving back towards Dehradun.

    Arrive in Dehradun by around late afternoon.

    The trip ends here.
