Book Tour and Activities on the Go!
About the Activity:
Gather at the meeting point : Meet near Khao San Rd at 10:30 am. The tour will depart at 11 am sharp. Make sure you allow plenty of time to get here, taking into account the heavy Bangkok traffic. After a quick bike fitting and briefing we head out. Staying off the roads we use small lanes, alleyways and canal boats to immerse you into the soul of Bangkok.
Cycle and Boat to Wat Kuhaswan : Riding through Rattanakosin Island to a Chao Phraya River pier from where you will take a boat down the river and through the canals to Wat Kuhasawan.
Cycle to the old market and visit an ancient community temple. Centuries ago trading communities formed along the canals on the outskirts of Bangkok to buy the goods coming to market from the outlying farms and orchards. The former wealth of these trading communities can be seen in the elegant architecture of the temples they left behind.
A local Thai lunch by Bang Luang Canal :Enjoy a simple tasty Thai lunch in a local eatery by the canal.
Traditional Thai Puppet Show : A group of Artists have taken up residence in a 200 year old traditional wooden house a the bank of Bang Luang Canal. Inside the Artist's House is an art gallery and gift shop. But most interesting of all is the performance of snippets from ancient epics by Hoon Lek puppeteers. Combining traditional Khon dance makes for probably the most unique form of puppetry you may ever see. There is a performance almost every day, except when the puppet troupe is away.
Cycle to Wat Hongrattanaram : Here you will stop briefly to see a shrine devoted to the first king of Bangkok, Taksin. The Chapel of Wat Hongrattanaram is the largest in Thonburi and according to some the most beautiful in Bangkok.
Cycle to the Community of Wat Kalyanamit : Here along the banks of the Chao Phraya River visit the mixed Chinese Thai temple of Wat Kalayanamit and the site of Bangkok's first Chinatown. Wat Kalyanamit houses Bangkok's largest Buddhist image.
Return to the meeting/drop point : Crossing back over the Chao Phraya river by ferry, then riding on past the Grand Palace, you'll find yourself in Sanam Luang, the royal ceremonial grounds. From here we finish back at our shop in the Khao San Road area which will be starting to build up for another big night out for the backpackers who stop over here.
The tour usually takes 4 - 5 hours but this is variable by group. Lunch is included in the tour
