Taking the leap into one's very first group adventure can feel like stepping into the unknown, especially when heading into the rugged, high-altitude terrain of the Trans-Himalayas. When Ankita Naik and Ashutosh Chavan set off from Delhi for an eight-day winter group expedition to Spiti Valley, having a structured, well-organised itinerary made by Thrillophilia ensured that every rugged kilometer felt like a shared celebration. Traversing vast mountain deserts, river valleys, and snow-dusted passes requires absolute operational precision, which was duly executed by our team of destination experts. Upon this, the group format turned this challenging cold-desert journey into an unforgettable quest.

Behind every truly uplifting group journey is an empathetic support structure working behind the scenes. Sunny Sharma from our team mapped out the multi-stage transit routes and accommodation arrangements to ensure optimal altitude acclimatization and group comfort. On the ground, expert tour guide Neethima brought the group together with incredible energy, caring leadership, and deep regional knowledge, transforming a group of strangers into a close-knit community of travellers.

Expressing her joy over her first group tour experience and the lasting memories made along the way, Ankita shared her review:

"Group was so good. People were so nice and the guide neethima was excellent. This was my first group tour and was so happy that I chose thrillopia. Thanks. I made very adventurous memories"

Border Trails, Ancient Wheels, and Monastery Heritage

The group’s journey through the wild heart of Himalaya began with an overnight bus drive from Delhi up into the misty pine-covered hills of Shimla. Reaching the historic hill station by morning, the travellerss boarded their shared group transport to head deep into Kinnaur toward Chitkul, revered as the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. Surrounded by towering snow-dusted peaks, the group spent their second day walking through traditional wooden hamlets, breathing in crisp alpine air, and bonding over hot tea beside the rushing Baspa River.

On the third day, the convoy wound along dramatic cliffside roads toward the tranquil village of Nako. Standing at over 12,000 feet, the travellers explored the quiet lakeside village and visited the historic Nako Monastery, where they had the rare privilege of spinning a 500-year-old prayer wheel crafted from yak skin. Pushing further into the Spiti Valley on day four, the group stopped at Tabo, known as the "Ajanta of the Himalayas," to marvel at ancient mud-plastered monasteries, thousand-year-old frescoes, and intricate Buddhist statues. By evening, the travellers arrived in Kaza, settling into their cozy mountain homestay under a canopy of clear, star-filled skies. They spent the night stargazing and sharing stories over a bonfire, which deepened the bond of the group all the more.

World's Highest Outposts, Monastery Towers, and Mountain Farewells

The fifth day delivered a series of breathtaking high-altitude achievements across the Spiti heartland. Under Neethima's guidance, the group journeyed to Hikkim, home to the world's highest post office, where each travellers wrote and mailed handwritten postcards to loved ones back home. The adventure continued upward to Komic, one of the highest villages connected by a motorable road, followed by a visit to the iconic Key Monastery, sitting dramatically atop a hill overlooking the Spiti River. Shared laughs, warm mountain meals, and joint photo sessions at these iconic heights cemented the friendship of the group members.

Turning back toward the lowlands on day six, the travellers visited the dramatic Dhankar Monastery, built on a rocky hill overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers, before continuing to the scenic village of Kalpa. Standing beneath the shadow of the sacred Kinner Kailash range, the group celebrated their final night in the mountains reflecting on their shared accomplishments. Following a scenic return drive to Shimla on the seventh day and an overnight transfer back to the capital, Ankita and her fellow travellers returned to Delhi on the eighth morning, enriched by new friendships and extraordinary Himalayan stories.
