About Puzzling World in Wanaka:Located just a short drive from Lake Wānaka, Puzzling World offers a collection of illusion-based spaces and hands-on experiences designed to challenge how you see and interact with your surroundings. The site, which began in 1973 as a single-level wooden maze, has developed over time into a well-structured attraction with indoor and outdoor elements, including what is known as the world’s first 3D maze.You begin your visit inside the Illusion Rooms, where each space is arranged to distort perception. Sloped floors, changing scales, and visual tricks are used in ways that shift your sense of balance and orientation. After exploring the illusions, you move on to the Great Maze. This outdoor labyrinth asks you to navigate a series of paths, overpasses, and dead ends to reach four corner towers before exiting. If needed, there are emergency exits placed throughout.The “Picture This…” area gives you access to several fixed structures designed for photos, such as a leaning tower, tilted buildings, and other geometric forms. These are built to appear unusual from certain angles. To end your visit, you can spend time at the Think Tank Café.
