Worcester Cathedral Overview

A renowned church with a history of several years old and religious importance located in Worcester whose official name is Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Mary the Virgin. It has one of the most beautiful architecture which has styled in features of Norman and Perpendicular Gothic styles.

Worcester Cathedral is an Anglican Cathedral located in Worcester by the bank of the river Severn. The cathedral was built somewhere between 1084 and 1504 in an architectural style of Normal or Perpendicular Gothic, it is famous for its Norman crypt, the extensive woodwork and unique chapter house. It has many architectural features from the mediaeval period like the transept which is quite common of English cathedrals, it’s built as a private route of the Holy Office for many clergy or monks.

One of the famous places to visit in Worcester, the Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Mary the Virgin, houses the burial tomb of King John, between the shrines of St. Wulstan and St. Oswald. There are many other such notable burials inside the cathedral like Stanley Baldwin, the former Prime Minister of the UK. The church also has an extensive choir, the three choirs of the church organise the famous Three Choirs Festival, the largest music festival of the world, since the 18th century.

Timings- The operational timings of the church are 10 AM to 5 PM throughout the week except for Sundays when Church is open between 1 PM to 3 PM
