St. Mary’s Basilica is a spectacular church located in Krakow which is marked by two tall towers of different lengths that offer tremendously beautiful panoramic views.

Originally, the church was built in the 13th century, but was destroyed when the Tarters raided Krakow. Later on, the church was rebuilt and made into a basilica devoted to St. Mary.

The Basilica is known for its Main Altar, which was the work of the renowned artist Veit Stoss, depicting the scenes of Mary and Jesus, including the scenes of ‘Assumption’.

One of the striking parts about the towers is the Trumpet Call (hejnal), which was originally played only once a day. But today, it is played every hour and a number of people gather together to listen to the trumpet call. You’ll also find a marketplace around the church, where you can go souvenir-shopping.
