About M Shed

An important part of the Bristol museums group, the M shed is one of the most visited sites by tourists exploring the Bristol harbour. This museum is not to be missed easily as it houses some huge historic cranes outside the building structure. The oldest of the cranes belongs to the 19th century and was used up until the 1950s. The museum is actually set up in a large shed and offers a multimedia experience diving deep into the city‘s rich history with a lot of permanent and temporary exhibits.

Visitors are able to enjoy displays based on stories of common people in the context of major historical events in the city. The museum also houses exhibits on transportation and maritime history of the city. Visitors get to enjoy interactive experiences like operating the original steam cranes or taking a ride on the Bristol harbour railway.
