Baliem Valley Overview
Baliem Valley, also called as the Grand Valley and is home to Dani people and their culture. The population of the place is around 200,000 which at times can make the valley a bit crowded.

Highlights: Wamena is the main town in Baliem Valley. Visitors can trek through tribal villages or can stroll around all of the three major markets in Wamena. People can shop for canned goods, electronic products, car parts, clothing and much more at these markets. One can also indulge in some excellent ice cream specially imported from England. Tourists can visit the 400 years old mummy at Akima which is among the major attractions of the place. Baliem has gained prominence due to beautiful locales and landscapes.

Location: Baliem Valley is located in central Highlands of western New Guinea at an altitude of around 1,600-1,700m.

Timings: Open 24 hours.

Price: Accommodation cost in Baliem Valley is rather reasonable but travelling is costly as fuel is expensive here. A car rental for a day costs around $75 without fuel.
