About the Yuksom Dzongri Trek:

The Yuksom Dzongri trek will take you to the heart of the beautiful Sikkim landscape. One will be tasked to make their way through the rugged, challenging and fascinating trails. Offering you a glimpse of some of the magnificent peaks like Kabru (7,353m), Ratong (6,678m), Kanchenjunga (8,534m), Koktang (6,147m), Pandim (6,691m) and Narsingh (5,825m). Along with your way to the Dzongri peak, you can also visit several other attractions as well.

This includes some of the popular and stunning waterfalls within the region, sunset point like Tiger Hill in Darjeeling which will cap off a wonderful trek. The trek will lead you to some of the majestic sights of the mountains and the distant valleys. This trek is considered as a moderate trek. The temperature here might go beyond the freezing point at any time of the year. This exotic trek takes you through the thick pristine forest of Sikkim Himalayas takes you to the highest point of at Dzongri Top around 15000 ft from where one can imbibe the splendour of Kanchenjunga National Park. You will complete this trek in a period of eleven days. 

Come across the famous and beautiful Khecheopalri Lake. It is believed that the birds here do not allow any leaves to fall on the lake. This trek shares the similar trek course to Chaurikhang the HMI Basecamp and Goechala Trek and starts at Yuksom. Dzongri Trek is considered as one of the shortest high altitude trekking in Sikkim. This trek has been attracting a lot of travellers from far and wide. Nestled high in the Himalayas between China to the north, Bhutan to east and Nepal to eastern frontier, Sikkim is often described as a land of unparalleled scenic beauty. Dzongri Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in NJP/Bagdogra Airport, Drive to Kalimpong (80km – 3 Hours by Road)

Arriving at the Bagdogra Airport or in NJP, you will be driven to Kalimpong. Upon arrival in the scenic town, check-in into a hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2
Drive from Kalimpong to Yuksum

An enthralling drive through the winding terrains and narrow passes of Kalimpong will take you to Yuksum today. Arriving in Yuksum, get settled down and spent the day in leisure. Come evening, take a stroll around the coronation site and Ani Gompa in the town

Day 3
Trek from Yuksum to Sachen Camp (2,750m)

On the first day of your trek, you will be trekking from Yuksum to Bakhim (14km). Walk through dense forests comprising of pine and oak trees, cross the Prek Chu River continue hiking uphill till you reach Sachen, your camping destination; overnight stay in camps.

Day 4
Trek from Sachen – Bakhim – Tshoka Camp (3,050m)

Today, you will be trekking to Bakhim while meandering through magnolia and rhododendron trees. Visit the beautiful but small Tshoka village, catch a breath-taking view of Mt Pandim, Aralunchong, Lamba-Lamini and spend the night in a local wooden hut in Tshoka.

Day 5
Trek from Tshoka to Dzongri Camp (4,020m)

Start the day with a trek to Dzongri. Taking around 5 hours, you will be walking through dense forests consisting of rhododendrons as well as 400 different flowering species. Upon reaching Phethang, take a short break and get enough time to enjoy the scenic beauty around you. Continuing with the trek, reach Dzongri by late afternoon and get settled into local wooden huts; overnight stay in the huts.

Day 6
Excursion to Laxmi Pokhari

Wake up early in the morning to watch the sunrise over Khangchendzonga, Kabru, Pandim, Rathong and other peaks belonging to the Khangchendzonga range. After breakfast, indulge in an excursion to Laxmi Pokhari and witness the magical beauty of the region; overnight stay in a wooden hut in Dzongri.

Day 7
Trek from Dzongri to Tsokha

Wake up to the beauty of mountain peaks by climbing to Dzongri top from where one can get a panaromic view of Kabru (7353M), Ratong (6678 M), Kanchenjanga (8534 M), Koktang (6147 M), Pandim (6691 M), Narsingh (5825 M). Trek through the Singalila Ridge till you reach Tsokha; overnight stay in a wooden hut.

Day 8
Trek from Toskha to Yuksom

Enjoy a trek down to Yuksom that has a 4,000ft descent and takes around 7 hours to get completed. Enjoy an evening soiree and then bid farewell to the porters and trekking staff; overnight stay at the designated hotel.

Day 9
Drive from Yuksom-Pelling

Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast in the morning before driving from Yuksom to Pelling in West Sikkim. Visit the beautiful Khecheopalri Lake where legend has it that the birds in the area do not allow leaves that trees shed to fall into the lake; overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 10
Drive from Pelling to Darjeeling (110 km/4 Hours by Road)

After a filling breakfast in the morning, drive through the scenic route between Pelling and Darjeeling. On arrival, and in the evening, visit the famous Darjeeling shopping mall followed by an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 11
Drop at Bagdogra Airport

Know Before You Go for Dzongri Trek

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • The management reserves all the right to modify the trek during any emergencies or natural calamities.
  • Consult a physician before undertaking the trek. Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek.
  • Pay heed to the trek guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound trek.
  • The trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travelers littering may be fined.
  • Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
  • Do not encourage trekking during the night unless it is a part of the itinerary and a guide is with you; this might lead to unforeseen mishaps.
  • Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
  • Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations.

  • Any personal expenses, items of personal nature, meals not mentioned, etc. will not be in part of the package.
  • Carry dry snacks/food from home (you will save a lot of money). Carry water bottles with you, so that you can refill.
  • Keep your luggage minimum; the more you carry, the more you hassle.
  • Children below the age of 7 years are not recommended for the trek.
