Travelling solo comes with a different kind of excitement. Every decision is your own, every place feels like a personal discovery, and every day unfolds a little differently than expected.

That's exactly what Kushal Khetan was looking for when he planned his Turkey trip in March 2024. With spring beginning to arrive across the country, it was the perfect time to explore its cities, landscapes, and history. Over the next eight days, he would cruise along the Bosphorus, watch hundreds of hot air balloons rise over Cappadocia, wander through ancient valleys, and end his journey along Antalya's beautiful Mediterranean coast.

Discovering Istanbul from the Bosphorus

Kushal's journey began in Istanbul, a city where centuries-old monuments stand beside lively markets and modern streets.

After arriving and settling into his hotel, the evening introduced him to the city from an entirely different perspective. A Bosphorus dinner cruise took him between Europe and Asia as Istanbul's skyline slowly lit up after sunset. Historic palaces, illuminated mosques, and the Bosphorus Bridge created a memorable first impression while live cultural performances and dinner completed the evening.

The next morning was spent exploring many of the city's iconic landmarks, including Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Hippodrome, and the bustling Grand Bazaar.

Walking through streets where Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman history coexist made Istanbul feel like several cities rolled into one.

Cappadocia's Valleys and a Sunrise Above the Clouds

From Istanbul, Kushal flew to Cappadocia, a destination that had been on his list for one reason in particular: the famous hot air balloons.

Before sunrise, dozens of balloons slowly lifted into the morning sky, floating over fairy chimneys, unusual rock formations, and valleys that looked almost unreal from above. It became one of those experiences that photographs simply can't recreate.

The following two days were spent exploring the region beyond the balloons. The Green Tour led him through the underground city of Derinkuyu, the peaceful trails of Ihlara Valley, Selime Monastery, and Pigeon Valley. The Red Tour revealed another side of Cappadocia, with its unique volcanic landscapes, cave settlements, and panoramic viewpoints.

The slower pace of Cappadocia made it easy to spend time simply taking in the surroundings. As Kushal later described the experience,

"Everything was planned well, and the local team was helpful throughout the trip."

His experience was positive enough that he later shared his feedback online as well, appreciating how the arrangements allowed him to focus more on the journey itself than the logistics.

Exploring Antalya at an Easy Pace

The next stop was Antalya, where the scenery changed once again.

Replacing rocky valleys with the Mediterranean coastline, the city offered a refreshing contrast to Cappadocia's rugged terrain. Kushal spent a full day exploring Antalya's historic streets, visiting Hadrian's Gate, walking through the old quarters, and stopping at the beautiful Düden Waterfalls, where the sound of cascading water echoed through the surrounding greenery.

Between sightseeing, there was also enough free time to enjoy local cafés, stroll along the waterfront, and experience the relaxed atmosphere that makes Antalya one of Turkey's most popular coastal cities. Sometimes the best travel moments aren't the ones planned in advance. They're the quiet walks, unexpected conversations, or simply sitting somewhere beautiful without feeling the need to rush.

Returning to Istanbul Before Heading Home

The final leg of the journey brought Kushal back to Istanbul for one last evening before flying home. It gave him a chance to revisit the city's vibrant streets, pick up a few souvenirs, and reflect on everything he had experienced over the past week. In just eight days, he had travelled across three very different regions of Turkey, each offering something unique.

From historic cities and cave landscapes to waterfalls and coastlines, every destination added another layer to the journey.
