Some destinations leave you with one strong memory.
Kerala leaves you with several.
For Amrita Gupta and her family, the trip wasn't defined by a single attraction or experience. It was a collection of completely different moments stitched together over seven days. One morning was spent among endless tea plantations. Another was spent watching wildlife in the forests of Thekkady. Then came a night on the backwaters of Alleppey, followed by an evening overlooking the Arabian Sea from the cliffs of Varkala.
By the end of the journey, it felt less like they had visited one destination and more like they had travelled through several different worlds within the same state.
Among the Tea-Covered Hills of Munnar

Munnar was where the family truly settled into the rhythm of the trip.
The drive itself felt like an experience, with waterfalls appearing along winding roads and green hills stretching as far as the eye could see. Once they arrived, the landscape seemed almost painted. Tea plantations covered entire mountainsides, creating a sea of green that changed shades with the movement of clouds overhead.
Places like Echo Point, Kundala Lake, and the surrounding viewpoints offered plenty of reasons to stop and simply admire the scenery. Yet some of the best moments came in between the sightseeing stops. Looking out of the car window, walking through the cool mountain air, or standing quietly at a viewpoint often proved just as memorable as the attractions themselves.
Munnar had a way of making people slow down, and for a family escaping their daily routines, that was perhaps its greatest charm.
A Different Side of Nature in Thekkady

If Munnar felt peaceful, Thekkady felt alive.
Home to the famous Periyar Tiger Reserve, this part of Kerala introduced the family to a more adventurous side of the state. The dense forests, wildlife-rich surroundings, and natural beauty created an atmosphere that was completely different from the tea estates they had left behind.
Something is exciting about being surrounded by nature in its raw form. Every trail, every stretch of forest, and every glimpse of the landscape carried a sense of anticipation. Even when wildlife remains hidden, places like Periyar have a way of making visitors feel connected to nature.
The change in scenery also kept the journey fresh. Just when the family thought they had understood Kerala, the state revealed another completely different personality.
Floating Through the Backwaters of Alleppey
For many travellers, Alleppey is the moment they imagine when they think of Kerala.
For Amrita and her family, it lived up to every expectation. Boarding the houseboat felt like stepping into a slower version of life. The rush of schedules disappeared as the boat drifted through canals lined with coconut trees, villages, and stretches of calm water.
Hours passed without anyone really noticing.
The family spent their time watching daily life unfold along the banks. Fishermen cast their nets, children played near the water, and small boats moved quietly through the backwaters. It was simple, peaceful, and surprisingly difficult to leave behind. Of all the experiences on the trip, this was perhaps the one that encouraged everyone to put their phones away and simply enjoy the moment.
Ending the Journey at Varkala's Cliffs
Just when it seemed Kerala had shown them everything, Varkala offered one final surprise.
The dramatic cliffs overlooking the Arabian Sea created a setting unlike anywhere else they had visited during the week. After the mountains of Munnar, the forests of Thekkady, and the waterways of Alleppey, standing above the ocean felt like the perfect finale.
The family spent time exploring the coastline, enjoying the sea breeze, and taking in views that stretched endlessly towards the horizon. There was no major activity to chase here, and that was precisely the appeal.
Varkala invited them to slow down one last time before returning home.
Why Amrita Would Recommend This Kerala Experience
Looking back on the trip, Amrita summed up the experience honestly:
"The whole experience was really nice. Just that the Munnar stay could have been better. Other than that, everything was perfect. Our cab driver was very nice and a gentleman. He made the journey a lot more enjoyable with his politeness and friendliness. Would definitely recommend others to try their service. Thank you for this beautiful experience, Thrillophilia Team."
The trip was planned by Suhani and coordinated by Rupali Sharma, helping ensure that the family's journey remained smooth throughout. Special credit also went to their driver, whose friendly nature and professionalism turned long road journeys into enjoyable parts of the holiday itself.
Seven days later, Amrita, Achintya, Soma, and Rohan returned home with a camera full of photographs and a collection of memories that looked completely different from one another: misty hills, dense forests, quiet backwaters, and dramatic sea cliffs.
And perhaps that is Kerala's greatest strength.
Just when you think you've figured it out, it shows you another side of itself.
