“Thanks for arranging this wonderful trip to Meghalaya! Less crowds, sweet localities, good veg food and amazing views make Meghalaya the most serene place to visit! My experience with Thrillophilia was so good! They were very responsive from the beginning. Our hosts, Ankit and Riya, are the sweetest; thanks for taking care of me. I was solo travelling and never felt unsafe. I got single sharing and a cosy stay throughout as I was alone. The itinerary was well planned and gave sufficient time for all the activities. Overall, the place was beyond beautiful, and the organisation was done almost flawlessly. "Thank you, Thrillophilia!”
There are some trips that feel like a proper escape, and Prajakta’s solo Meghalaya adventure was exactly that. Over six days, she travelled through Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki and back to Shillong, picking up a collection of waterfalls, caves, forests, root bridges and mountain views along the way. The itinerary had plenty of adventure, while the slower moments gave her space to enjoy Meghalaya at her own pace.
Shillong Started Things on a Beautiful Note
Prajakta’s Meghalaya journey began in Guwahati, where she joined her shared transfer towards Shillong. The drive itself became part of the experience, with the scenery gradually changing from city roads to winding mountain routes. Umiam Lake was her first major stop, and the wide stretch of blue water surrounded by green hills offered a lovely first glimpse of Meghalaya.
Once she reached Shillong, she checked into her stay and had the rest of the day to explore at her own pace. She had options like Phan Nonglait Park, Spread Eagle Falls and the Rhino Heritage Museum around her, giving her an easy introduction to the city before the more adventurous days ahead.
Cherrapunji Brought the Waterfalls and Caves

The next morning, Prajakta was taken towards Cherrapunji, with Elephant Falls making the first stop. Water rushed down the three rocky levels of the falls, forming little pools along the way and creating a beautiful spot surrounded by thick greenery. From there, the road continued towards Cherrapunji, where the scenery became increasingly dramatic.
Her sightseeing day covered some of the region’s most famous sights. Seven Sisters Waterfalls opened up sweeping views across the hills, while NohKaLikai Falls offered another spectacular view of Meghalaya’s rugged landscape. Mawsmai Cave brought a completely different kind of adventure, with narrow passages and naturally formed rock formations, while Arwah Caves added another dose of exploration to the day. For a solo traveller, having so many different experiences packed into one destination made Cherrapunji especially exciting.
3,500 Steps to the Double Decker Root Bridge

Then came the day that required some serious legwork. Prajakta headed towards Tyrna Village for the trek to Nongriat and the famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge. The trail involved around 3,500 steps, winding through dense greenery and deep into Meghalaya’s forested landscape.
The reward was worth every step. The Double Decker Root Bridge is one of Meghalaya’s most fascinating natural creations, formed from living tree roots that have been guided and strengthened over generations. Standing there after the long descent must have felt like discovering a completely different side of the state. Prajakta also had the option to continue towards Rainbow Falls, adding another adventure to an already memorable trekking day, before making her way back to Tyrna and her stay in Cherrapunji.
Mawlynnong, Riwai and the Crystal-Clear Umngot

The journey towards Dawki brought another change of scenery. Prajakta travelled through Mawlynnong, a peaceful village surrounded by greenery, before heading towards Riwai. Here, she explored the Single Decker Living Root Bridge and the famous Balancing Rock, getting another close look at the unique way local communities have lived alongside Meghalaya’s forests.
Dawki brought one of the most photogenic moments of the trip. The Umngot River is famous for its exceptionally clear water, and seeing the river stretch between the green hills feels almost surreal. Prajakta had time around Shnongpdeng as well, where activities such as kayaking and boating added an adventurous touch to her day. After so much exploring, her stay in Dawki gave her a chance to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.
Krang Shuri and Laitlum Closed the Adventure
Her final full day brought two more spectacular landscapes. Prajakta travelled towards Krang Shuri Waterfalls, where turquoise water surrounded by dense forest created one of those scenes that practically begs for photographs. The journey continued to Laitlum Canyon, where the view opened dramatically across Meghalaya’s rolling hills and deep valleys.
By the time she returned to Shillong, the trip had covered an impressive mix of Meghalaya’s highlights. Waterfalls, caves, mountain roads, village trails, river adventures and living root bridges had all found their way into six memorable days. The following morning, she headed towards Guwahati, stopping at Kamakhya Temple before continuing towards the airport or railway station.
Why Prajakta Chose Thrillophilia
For a solo traveller, the experience goes beyond having a sightseeing list. Prajakta had a single-sharing stay throughout the trip, giving her a comfortable space to return to after long days of trekking and exploring. The shared transfers also gave her the chance to meet fellow travellers while moving between destinations.
Her hosts, Ankit and Riya, became an important part of the experience. She specifically appreciated their warmth and support throughout the journey, along with the responsiveness of the Thrillophilia team from the planning stage onwards. Kush Malhotra handled the trip from the sales side, helping bring the journey together before the on-ground team took over.
Prajakta’s review sums it up beautifully: Meghalaya gave her the landscapes and adventures, while Thrillophilia gave her the structure and support to enjoy them as a solo traveller. From the 3,500-step trek to Nongriat to the clear waters of Dawki, this was a trip packed with stories she could take home.
