You know a trip has gone really well when someone asks which part was your favourite, and you genuinely cannot answer.

That is exactly where Spinal Shah and his family ended up after four nights at Sun Siyam Olhuveli in August 2025. The trip was made to fit all four people, two adults and two young kids, five days in the Maldives, and not a single moment felt boring. The speedboat from Velana International Airport to Sun Siyam Olhuveli is the kind of transfer that makes everything look prettier and gives the holiday an amazing start.

The water is turquoise in a way that seems almost unreasonable, the resort island appears on the horizon, and by the time you step off the boat you are already somewhere very different from wherever you came from.

They checked into a Grand Beach Villa for the first two nights, which for a family with a seven- and a nine-year-old is exactly the right starting point. Direct beach access, the ocean close by, the resort's amenities all around them.

The first evening had options that immediately set the tone for what the next few days were going to look like. A floating dinner experience under the stars, which is as good as it sounds, and Namaste Restaurant for anyone who wanted familiar flavours on the first night in a new place. For a family traveling with young kids, having an Indian food option available right there at the resort is a genuinely useful thing.

A Day of Resort Life

Day two was about slowing down and enjoying the resort. Spa and wellness for the adults who needed it, the Siyam Orchid Restaurant for a proper sit-down meal, Dream Bar for something in the evening, and a beach party and bonfire to end the night. The kind of day where you do not have to plan anything, you just follow whatever sounds good at any given hour. For Spinal and Devanshi, with Drisha and Riday running around the beach and the pool, and just relaxing through the day is probably exactly what everyone needed.

Moving Into the Grande Water Villa

Day three brought the villa upgrade that changed the texture of the trip completely. The Grande Water Villa at Sun Siyam Olhuveli sits above the lagoon, and the difference between waking up in a beach villa and waking up above the ocean is something you have to experience to fully understand.

For two kids, a water villa is pure magic. The lagoon visible through the floor, the deck extending over the water, the ocean in every direction. The day was dedicated to water sports, with kitesurfing, diving, and fishing all available for anyone who wanted to get into the action. The last full day continued at the same easy pace before the speedboat back to the airport on the morning of the fifth day.

How Thrillophilia Makes the Trip Better
