Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma in the South Male Atoll was the property, and it turned out to be a very good call for a couple looking for the full Maldives experience without overcomplicating a three-night trip.

They arrived at Velana International Airport and were transferred to the resort by speedboat, the standard Maldives arrival that never gets old no matter how many times you have done it. For Gagana and Srivatsan, the full board inclusion meant breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages were all taken care of from the moment they checked in, which is the right way to do a short Maldives trip. No decisions about where to eat, no surprise bills at the end. Just three nights of being completely looked after.
The first two nights were in a Beach Villa, with direct beach access and the Indian Ocean right outside. The second day was entirely recreational, with the resort's activities and the beach and whatever the two of them felt like doing at any given hour. That is the thing about a full board resort stay in the Maldives. The structure takes care of itself, and you just move through the day at whatever pace feels right.
The Overwater Villa on Night Three
On the third day, they moved into an Overwater Villa with Sea View, which is the natural progression of any Maldives stay and the moment the trip shifted into its most memorable version. Waking up above the water, the lagoon below, the ocean on all sides, and the South Male Atoll doing what it does in the morning light. One night in an overwater villa is sometimes all you need to understand why people keep coming back to the Maldives. It is a genuinely different experience from a beach villa, and the two nights on the beach contrasted feel even more special.
The fourth morning was checkout and the speedboat back to the airport, the atoll shrinking behind them on the way out.
