Before travelling to Ladakh, Harish Hebbar had heard the same advice countless times.
"Be careful about altitude sickness."
"Take it easy."
"Don't push yourself too much."
A quick search online only seemed to make things worse. Every forum had warnings, every video had precautions, and every article made the journey sound far more intimidating than exciting.
Yet the moment Harish and Sukanya arrived in Leh, those fears slowly began to disappear.
The mountains felt larger than they had imagined. The air was crisp, the skies seemed impossibly clear, and every road appeared to lead somewhere extraordinary. What began as a trip they had carefully prepared for soon became a journey they simply wanted to experience.
And the best part?
The thing they had worried about the most never ended up defining the trip at all.
The Ride They Had Been Dreaming About

They say Ladakh is about the destinations. For Harish and Sukanya, it became all about the road in between.
Every morning began with the familiar rumble of a Royal Enfield engine and the anticipation of discovering what lay beyond the next mountain pass. The destinations were incredible, but it was the feeling of riding through Ladakh that made the experience unforgettable.
The ride through Sham Valley offered the perfect introduction. The confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, the mystery of Magnetic Hill, and the wide-open landscapes made it clear that Ladakh wasn't going to be an ordinary holiday.
Then came Khardung La.
There is something special about standing at one of the world's highest motorable passes after riding your way there. The excitement wasn't just about reaching the top. It was about every turn, every climb, and every view that unfolded along the way. A simple stop for tea and Maggi at Khardung La Café somehow felt like an achievement worth celebrating.
The road continued into Nubra Valley, where barren mountains suddenly gave way to sand dunes and vast open spaces. From there, they rode towards Pangong Lake, watching the landscape change constantly around them. Villages appeared unexpectedly between mountains. Rivers followed the roads for miles. Long stretches of silence made the journey feel even more immersive.
And then there was Umling La.
At nearly 19,300 feet above sea level, reaching the world's highest motorable road felt less like visiting a tourist attraction and more like completing a personal challenge. The roads were demanding, the altitude was extreme, and the views were unlike anything either of them had experienced before.
By that point, the motorcycle had become much more than a way of getting around. It had become their front-row seat to Ladakh.
Beyond the High Passes

While the mountain passes delivered the adrenaline, some of the quieter moments became equally memorable.
Nubra Valley was one of them. After hours of riding through rugged mountain terrain, the landscape suddenly changed. Vast sand dunes appeared between towering peaks, creating a scene that felt completely unexpected in Ladakh. Further ahead, Pangong Lake brought another dramatic shift. The roads narrowed, villages became fewer, and eventually the famous blue lake emerged against a backdrop of barren mountains.
The journey then carried them towards Hanle, one of the most remote parts of Ladakh. Unlike the busier tourist stops, Hanle felt untouched. The roads were emptier, the villages quieter, and the skies seemed endless. Riding through this region gave them a chance to experience a side of Ladakh that many travellers never see.
What stood out most was how quickly the scenery could transform. In a single day, they could ride past rivers, deserts, mountain passes, and open valleys, each landscape feeling completely different from the last. It was that constant sense of discovery that kept every day exciting.
Why Harish Recommends Thrillophilia for Ladakh
Before the trip, Harish's biggest concern had been the same one that worries most first-time visitors: altitude sickness.
By the end of the journey, he had a very different perspective.
"Very good, a lifetime experience. Personally, I felt that there was no need to worry about altitude sickness. Don't depend on Google. Marshals were appreciable and excellent. It was a wonderful experience."
For him, the biggest advantage wasn't just the itinerary. It was having an experienced team managing the journey. The riding marshals were always available when needed, ensuring that the group travelled comfortably while navigating some of the highest roads in the world.
This Ladakh expedition was planned by Prasoon Jain and the Thrillophilia team. Their support throughout the journey allowed Harish and Sukanya to focus on the experience rather than the logistics. Instead of worrying about routes, permits, or road conditions, they could simply enjoy the ride.
This one was remembered for the feeling of riding through one of the most extraordinary landscapes in the world, knowing that every kilometre brought something new to discover. ❤️
