Japan has a way of making travellers feel like they have stepped into several different worlds during the same holiday. Tokyo brings towering landmarks, crowded crossings and bright city streets. Mount Fuji introduces wide mountain views and peaceful lakes. Osaka brings food, energy and lively neighbourhoods, while Kyoto and Nara take travellers deeper into Japan’s history.

For Renee and Jadav Nabam, eight days gave them the chance to experience all of it.

Their journey brought together some of Japan’s most recognisable sights, from Tokyo Tower and Sensoji to Mount Fuji, Hakone, Osaka Castle, the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Fushimi Inari and Nara Park. With comfortable stays, organised transfers and sightseeing planned across the trip, the couple could focus on experiencing Japan one destination at a time.

Tokyo Gave Them Their First Taste of Japan

Renee and Jadav began their holiday in Tokyo, staying in Shinjuku for four nights. They stayed in one of the city's most energetic neighbourhoods, surrounded by restaurants, shops, entertainment and the constant movement that makes Tokyo so distinctive.

Their first day was left open for them to settle in and explore at their own pace. Shinjuku offered plenty to discover, while places such as Shibuya Crossing, Ginza, Omotesando and Yoyogi Park gave them options for their first look at the city.

The following day brought a full Tokyo sightseeing tour. They moved through some of the city's best-known landmarks, including Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, Sensoji Temple, Meiji Jingu, Odaiba and the Imperial Palace. The route also took them through Asakusa, Roppongi, Takeshita Street, Kappabashi and the Ameyoko shopping district.

Each stop showed them another side of the capital. At Sensoji, traditional temple architecture and the lively streets around it created a very different atmosphere from the modern skyline visible from Tokyo Skytree. In Odaiba, futuristic buildings and waterfront views took over. Around Takeshita Street, colourful shops and youthful street fashion added yet another layer to their Tokyo experience.

For Renee and Jadav, the first few days were packed with those classic Japan moments they had probably seen in photographs long before arriving.

Osaka Brought a Different Kind of Energy

Renee and Jadav then boarded the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka, giving them the chance to experience one of Japan's most famous ways of travelling between cities.

Osaka became their base for the next three nights.

The city immediately brought a livelier atmosphere. Their sightseeing introduced them to places such as Osaka Castle, Osaka Station City, Shinsekai, Hozenji Yokocho and Dotonbori. Walking through these neighbourhoods gave the couple a closer look at Osaka's famous mix of food, shopping, entertainment and local life.

The Aqua Liner cruise added another perspective. From the water, they could see Osaka's landmarks and historic areas while travelling along the Ogawa River. Dotonbori brought the quintessential Osaka experience. Bright signs, bustling streets, restaurants and the famous Ebisu Bridge created the kind of setting where simply walking around becomes part of the sightseeing.

Mount Fuji Became the Mountain Highlight

Then came the day many travellers wait for when visiting Japan: Mount Fuji.

Renee and Jadav set out from Tokyo for a full-day excursion through Mount Fuji and Hakone. The scenery gradually changed as they moved away from the city, replacing Tokyo's dense skyline with mountains, forests and open landscapes.

Their route included Mount Fuji's 5th Station, where the famous mountain rises dramatically above the surrounding landscape. Standing before Fuji in person feels different from seeing it in photographs. Its near-perfect volcanic shape, snow-covered slopes and immense scale make it instantly recognisable.

The journey continued through Hakone, where the couple explored Owakudani Valley, visited Hakone Shrine, and experienced the Hakone Ropeway. The ropeway offered sweeping views across the mountainous landscape, while the area around Owakudani brought a more rugged side of Japan, with volcanic terrain and steam rising from the earth. The day brought together everything that makes the Fuji-Hakone region special: dramatic mountain scenery, traditional Japanese landmarks and the chance to experience Japan beyond its major cities.

Kyoto and Nara Added the Cultural Heart of the Journey

The final full day took Renee and Jadav beyond Osaka to Kyoto and Nara.

Kyoto introduced them to some of Japan's most iconic cultural landmarks. They visited the Golden Pavilion, where the golden temple reflects against the surrounding pond, and continued towards the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest.

Walking beneath the tall bamboo created one of the most recognisable scenes of their Japan holiday. The towering green stalks rise on either side of the pathways, creating a completely different setting from the busy streets they had experienced earlier in the trip.

Their day continued to Tenryū-ji Temple and the Togetsu-kyo Bridge, before taking them to Fushimi Inari Taisha, famous for its seemingly endless rows of vermilion torii gates.

Nara added another memorable stop with Nara Park, where the famous deer roam freely around the historic surroundings.

By then, Renee and Jadav had experienced the Japan they had come looking for: modern cities, iconic mountains, traditional temples, scenic landscapes and local culture.

A Well-Planned Journey Worth Repeating

Behind the sightseeing was a carefully coordinated trip that brought together hotels, transfers, train travel and guided excursions across multiple cities.

Kartik, their Thrillophilia sales owner, helped put the journey together and coordinate the different parts of the experience. With Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto and Nara all included across eight days, having the arrangements planned gave the couple more time to focus on enjoying the destination.

Looking back at the entire journey, Renee summed up her experience simply:

For a holiday that covered so much of Japan in eight days, that final thought says plenty.

Renee and Jadav arrived with eight days ahead of them and returned with memories of Tokyo's skyline, Mount Fuji's snow-capped slopes, Osaka's buzzing streets, Kyoto's temples and Nara's peaceful parks.

And judging by Renee's words, Japan may have been their destination this time, but it certainly may not be their last journey with Thrillophilia.
