The Andamans are not a trip that needs selling.

The photographs do that on their own. Turquoise water over white sand. Coral is visible from the surface. Beaches that have no footprints on them before eight in the morning. Most people have the destination saved somewhere on their phone long before they actually book it.

What they do not know before they land is how the logistics work. Three islands in a 5-day Andaman tour package mean ferries, jetties, inter-island cruises, hotel check-ins that need to be timed around boat departures, and a chain of handovers that only runs smoothly when someone on the other end is actually reachable.

Havelock First

Day one started at Port Blair airport. A representative was waiting. The transfer went straight to the jetty, and the ferry to Havelock departed from there.

Havelock is the island most people plan their Andaman trip around. Radhanagar Beach is the reason. The sand is white, and the water runs through shades of green and blue that shift as the depth changes. At this beach, the waves are gentle enough to stand in for long stretches without being pushed around, and the tree cover behind the sand means there is always shade when the sun gets strong.

One night was saved for exploring a Havelock tour package, and the evening belonged to Radhanagar.

Elephant Beach was day two

Breakfast at the hotel, then the boat to Elephant Beach.

The boat ride takes twenty minutes or so and arrives at a beach that is set up specifically for the water. Snorkelling gear was included. The coral here sits close enough to the surface that you do not need to go deep to see it. Fish move around the reef in groups, the colours sharper underwater than they look in any photograph. The demo snorkelling session handled the basics before the couple went in on their own.

Elephant Beach has no road access, which is what keeps it the way it is. You come by boat and leave by boat, and in between, the beach belongs to whoever made the trip out there.

Back to the hotel at Havelock for the night.

Day Three Moved Through Two Islands

Kalapathar Beach in the morning before check-out. The beach is named for the black rocks that line one end of the shoreline, and at low tide, the rock pools between them catch the light differently from the open water. The contrast between the black stone, the pale sand and the turquoise beyond is the photograph that comes out of Kalapathar.

Then, the private cruise to Neil Island in the afternoon.

Laxmanpur Beach at sunset. Neil Island runs quieter than Havelock. The sunsets at Laxmanpur happen slowly, the sky going through its colours over the water without any crowd watching. Then the natural coral bridge, a rock formation at the water's edge that the tide has been carving for longer than anyone has been counting.

Bharatpur and Port Blair Closed the Trip

Day four started with Bharatpur Beach. Water sports, snorkelling and the kind of beach morning that justifies the whole trip. Then, the cruise back to Port Blair is in the afternoon.

Corbyn Cove Beach first. The coconut palms behind the sand and the bay curving in front of it. Then the Cellular Jail in the evening. The light and sound show runs after dark in the jail courtyard and takes you through the history of the colonial prison where Indian freedom fighters were held. It runs for about an hour and leaves the kind of quiet that follows something worth paying attention to.

By the time the flight lifted off from Port Blair, the five days had included three islands, four beaches, one coral reef, one historic jail, and one light show in the Andaman tour package.
