About the Activity:

  • If you are looking for a short, a week long or so trek, then Chopta Chandrashila trek will be a perfect fit for you. One of the most wanted short treks in India is this one.
  • The particular destination is in the Garhwal region of Himalayas where flora and fauna are found in abundance and the scarcity of human interference makes the nature astounding.
  • To join the five day trek, arrive at Haridwar in the morning and you will be further taken by the guides.
  • Deorital, a jaw-dropping lake is the main highlight of this trek apart from the unleashing greenery, the snow-covering pathways, the lofty Himalayan peaks and the rugged forest trails.
  • During the trek, you will hike up to Tungnath temple, which is located at an altitude of 3680 meters, from there to Chandrashilla peak at about 4000 meters.
  • You will get ample sights to fall in love with the place in the form of Chopta valley which is located at an elevation of 2,680 meters (1.66 miles) and is surrounded by a forest of Oak, Rhododendron and Deodar.
  • The package provides you with food, accommodation in tents and lodges and transportation during the trip.

  • There are two variants available: 1) tented accommodation without transport and 2) tented accommodation with transport
  • The short itinerary is as follows:
  • Day 1 : Haridwar – Kund (1350m) (Drive / 200 Kms) (6 - 7 Hrs)
  • Day 2 : Kund Camp (1350m) – Kakragad (Stream)- Makkumat – Chalkot Camp (Drive / 25 mins) (Trek / 5 hrs)
  • Day 3 : Chalkot – Sari – Deoriatal – Rohini Bugyal- Tali - Chalkot (Trek / 6 -7 hrs) ( Drive / 1 hr)
  • Day 4 : Chalkot - Chopta (2800m) - Tungnath (3680m) - Chandrashila peak (4000m) – Chalkot / Kund (Trek / 4 - 5 hrs) (Drive / 50 mins)
  • Day 5 : Kund / Chalkot - Haridwar (Drive / 200 kms / 6 - 7 hrs)

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - HARIDWAR – KUND (1350M) (DRIVE / 200 KMS) (6 - 7 HRS)

    Meet your guides and fellow travellers at Haridwar railway station at 7:00 a.m and get a drive up to Kund.

    This is an engaging drive all along the Ganga and Alaknanda river.

    En route you will be crossing the holy towns of Rishikesh, Devprayag and Rudraprayag.

    In the evening, go for a short hike by the riverside.

    Stay overnight in the lodge.

  • Day 2 - KUND CAMP (1350M) – KAKRAGAD (STREAM)- MAKKUMAT – CHALKOT CAMP (DRIVE / 25 MINS) (TREK / 5 HRS)

    Post breakfast, begin your drive to the streams at Kakragad.

    At Kakragad, one may choose to enjoy in the natural pools.

    Then hike past the forests and Himalayan villages to reach Makkumat (Winter seat of Tungnath Temple)

    From Makkumat, you will be transferred to Chalkot by a vehicle.

    Stay overnight in the tents.

  • Day 3 - CHALKOT – SARI – DEORIATAL – ROHINI BUGYAL- TALI - CHALKOT (TREK / 6 -7 HRS) ( DRIVE / 1 HR)

    From the campsite, proceed to Sari, the starting point for our trek.

    From Sari, begin the hike to Deoriatal, a high altitude lake.

    After spending a couple of hours by this majestic lake, reflecting the Chaukhamba peak in its still waters, trek further to reach Rohini Bugyal, a beautiful forest trail in complete isolation.

    From there, the trail goes down through a beautiful forest to reach the road head at Tali.

    Continue to Chalkot campsite by a vehicle.

    For those not keen on a longer Trek, can go for a shorter trek from Sari to Deoriatal and back to Sari (trek/ 3 hrs).

    Stay overnight in the tents.

  • Day 4 - CHALKOT - CHOPTA (2800M) - TUNGNATH (3680M) - CHANDRASHILA PEAK (4000M) – CHALKOT / KUND (TREK / 4 - 5 HRS) (DRIVE / 50 MINS)

    Start the day by climbing up the slopes of the meadows in Chopta.

    You will take a couple of hours to reach Tungnath temple. Amuse at the scenic location and the views of the surrounding mountains from the high altitude.

    Have some refreshments and then trek further to the summit of Chandrashilla peak.

    Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba etc can be clearly seen from the summit and it would be indescribable.

    From the summit, you will start to descend to Chopta and be driven to the lodge in Kund.

    Stay overnight in the camp / lodge.

  • Day 5 - KUND / CHALKOT - HARIDWAR (DRIVE / 200 KMS / 6 - 7 HRS )

    Post breakfast, depart for Haridwar.

    The trip ends at Haridwar.

  • For travel to Haridwar and back one can choose between air, rail & road. For air travel, the closest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport (30 kms) in Dehradun and is well connected to Delhi and other parts of the country by Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines & Spice Jet. Train travel is highly recommended with enough options being there.

  • In the initial days of the pre monsoon season (April – Jun) days are going to be sunny and warm (18-26 °C) while the night temperature at the highest campsite would be in the range of 5-13 °C. In the post monsoon season (Sep-Nov) the days are sunny and clear with temperatures hovering around (14-22 °C) the evenings start getting cold with the onset of October and nights are comparatively colder (2-10 °C). Mid-December onwards it gets cold with onset of snow. This region experiences heavy snow which melts only by mid-March.
