Spreuer Bridge Overview

The Spreuer Bridge is another gorgeous wooden bridge of Lucerne beside the Chapel Bridge. This one is still more of a hidden gem and is located downstream of the Chapel Bridge. The bridge’s name was derived from “Spreu” which means Chaff, flour mill waste.

Explore this hidden treasure, and marvel at the intricate wooden panels adorned with vibrant historical paintings depicting the Dance of Death. This charming bridge offers a serene escape and adds a touch of historical allure to your Swiss journey, making it a delightful inclusion in your Switzerland package itinerary.

Back in the day, it was allowed to dump Spreu into the Reuss River off of the wooden bridge. The Spreuer Bridge was built in the year 1408 and was destroyed in 1566 by a flood. Post this, the bridge and the granary were rebuilt and have been decorated with paintings by Danse Macabre, in interior triangular frames, a distinctive feature of the wooden bridges in Lucerne.
