Nestled among the Aravalli hills, just 3 kilometres west of Udaipur, lies Shilpgram, a vibrant arts and crafts village. It was inaugurated by Rajiv Gandhi in 1989, and designed to celebrate and preserve the cultural heritage of Mewar. This living ethnographic museum spreads over 70 acres, offering a picturesque snapshot of rural India. Here, you can see the traditional life of the folk and tribal communities of the Western Zone of India come to life. The complex boasts a series of huts, each representing the unique architectural styles and cultures of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa.

Shilpgram is famous for its architectural beauty as well as for the Shilpgram Mahotsav. This annual festival, running from December 21st to 31st, turns the village into a bustling hub of activity. During the festival, you can witness the crafts of over 600 folk artists and 400 artisans. Visitors can explore handloom, handicrafts, and a variety of eco-friendly items while enjoying traditional dance performances. The open-air amphitheatre, with a seating capacity of 8000, hosts major theatre festivals and folk performances. It offers a glimpse into the rich artistic traditions of India.   • By Road: Shilpgram is located 5.6 kilometres from Udaipur city centre (Jagdish Chowk area). 
  • By Bus: Udaipur is well-served by a network of state and private buses. Buses from Udaipur city centre to Shilpgram run regularly. The bus ride takes about 15 to 20 minutes via Rani Road and drops you directly at the entrance of Shilpgram.
  • By Car: If you prefer a more comfortable journey, hiring a taxi or driving a personal car is a convenient option. The route to take is via RJ SH 50 to Rani Road, where Shilpgram is located. This journey should take around 15 minutes from the city centre.

  • Best Time of Day: Shilpgram opens at 11:00 a.m., which is also the best time for a visit. This is when you can see the artisans begin their day. Additionally, the cool weather adds to the experience, letting you enjoy photography and soak in the peaceful vibe.
