The beauty of the stream is enhanced by the gorgeous surroundings that mostly comprises snow bathed mountains and lush green pastures on all sides. It is situated about 10 km from the town of Gulmarg in Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The Ningle Nallah finds its way through meandering paths amid mountains and valleys and finally merges with the River Jhelum. It is a much sought-after tourist spot and ideal for little picnics especially among families with kids. Moreover, there are ample opportunities in the nearby meadows for overnight camping. So if you wish to camp by the gurgling waters of the stream below a star lit sky and surrounded by nature’s magic, this is the place to be.

The rocky terrains of the landscape here further amplify the beauty of the stream, which is also a source of water for rural dwellers of the nearby areas. The undulated land formations and daring slopes also give trekkers a challenging terrain to test their steel.

Highlights

• The stream sources its water from the melting of ice at Apharwat Peak and also from the mountain lake, Alpather which is in fact the main reservoir
• The stream, after winding its way through meadows and mountainous trails, confluences with the bigger River Jhelum near Sopore
• The site is popular for family picnics as well as camping in the nearby meadows. Trekking enthusiasts also find the challenging slopes and uneven lands of the surrounding area, ideal for testing their acumen
• You can try your hand at trout fishing at the stream and if you venture further up, even come across a small waterfall
• Historically too, this was among the most popular places in Gulmarg and was a favorite among royalty, as kings chose the cool waterside to have their outings. During the British regime, this served as one of the summer escapades of officers who came to India to rule
